smokes part II

So my 99 OBS smokes a little, no big deal.

Now there is a new development.

It seems that when the engine is up to a "highway operating temperture" and I really mash the throttle, it smokes a LOT. Meaning when I pull away from a toll both I can see a cloud of smoke behind my car. WTF!!

It doesn't have this problem on my short trips from home to work.

The car still has normal power.

Any thoughts?

Should I be scouting a 2.5?

Yup.

Have you changed your PCV valve? Sometimes, if it's really plugged, it can cause oil burning/smoking. If you haven't done it, it's worth the $9 to try it.

Or drop in a non-smoking 2.2 for cheap!

Or join us at the Oct 20th Redline garage day and learn how to re-seal a motor!

I've got the same problem, SoPo.... are you sure yours is actually "smoking" out the pipe, or if the headers are getting hit with oil..

not uncommon for 2.2L's, so I've been told.

When I talked to Dan yesterday he said that it was smoking out the pipe... I thought about the oil dripping on the headers but he said it doesn't smoke from under the hood.

Dan - you could get an EZ Pass and then you won't have to stop at the toll booths.
