Strange brake problem???

So, we were bleeding the brakes on the 93 legacy today. We had just put 03 legacy front calipers on with SS lines all around and newer pads in the front.

While putting fluid back into the system i started with the FR, then RL. That half of the system bleed fine. Got the FL and when i opened the bleeder only a little bit of fluid/air came out and the peddle wouldn't reach the floor. The same thing happened with the RR. I even took the line off of the caliper in the front and the same thing happened.

The ABS light has been coming on, happens the second i touch the brakes. The brakes have felt ok.

I think Rad had said he had had the abs fuse out, but i don't know if he had it out because there was a problem or because he didn't want the ABS, Rad?

All the fuses are in it now, but one of them that is supposed to be a 10 is a 20, Rad?

I don't think it is electrical though, because the system seams to be not working with the car off.

But could it still be a problem with the ABS pump?

Whatever it is it has to be somewhere between the MC and the ABS pump since both front and rear wont bleed, right?

Any ideas?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like something is plugging up your lines, maybe the line from the MC to the ABS for that pair of wheels? Could be stuck in the ABS actuator/valve (whatever you call it) and that's why its throwing the code?? Just thinking aloud...

mash the pedal and see if you can get something to squirt out of the line. Try for like a half hour at each wheel. Let us know what you come up with.

hey lets not, cause guess who would be the one pushing that pedal for those two hours haha :

You're crafty... just do like they do on Monster Garage and use a big air powered actuator to repeatedly bash the brake pedal.

So....

Messed around with the brakes this evening with the FIL. The first thing we did just for grins was open/bleed the bleeders on the abs pump (i hadn't seen bleeders on the pump before). We got some air out the system in question, which wasn't surprising.

Then we tried the FL to see what would happen. We got air out... then fluid... seamed to bleed normal. Then did the back... bled fine.

So i don't know if bleeding the abs pump made that much of a difference. I can't see having air in there would stop the peddle. Or maybe by opening that we release something or something.

I did notice that when i did work the peddle the first couple of times it would stop pretty close to the floor then not move much when the bleeders where opened. Maybe it was working the other night and mike just didn't realize the peddle was already on the floor. That would also match what i got out of the bleeders that night. A very little air/fluid would come out then stop...

Either way i am glad it was an easy fit. Thanks for the help. And sorry for the urgency yesterday inski, but i was pretty stumped before and was worried i needed an abs pump. Which would have sucked.

Well they bled good. And i have a firm peddle with the car off.

She's still in the air cause i still have to install the RSB.

We'll see how the brakes work out on saturday.

Saturday mike and i bled the brakes again just to be sure. Got a little more air out.

They felt good today. The ABS light came on when i first used the brakes hard. But i don't think it was on when i got home.

Guess we'll see, as long as they work good i'm happy.

Thanks again all.
