strange noise

So I'm still new to all this subie stuff. I had a gear break in my rearend and I replaced that and my drive shaft. Now its been a couple weeks and I'm getting this strange noise from what seems to be the front of the car. Its almost like a humming sound along with what a card in a bicycle spoke sounds like. What's weird to me is that it makes the noise while I'm in gear coasting, in gear with the clutch in, or out of gear. The noise goes away while I'm on the throttle. I'm thinking it may be the tranny, hope not though. The noise hadn't been getting any worse up intill this snow storm. Looking for ideas of what it could be, thanks. My car is an 03 wrx

Ill have to check the rotars and pads. At first I was thinkin cv joint but I figured that the car wouldn't ride smooth with a bad cv

Was the rear end the same ratio? I'm not sure exactly the damage that would occur but it wouldn't be good.

So my cvs are good. I've been looking up center diffs going bad and it seems like it could be that, except RJB in turner told me that if my diff was bad then it'd bind up while turning which it does not do.

Maybe someone on here could go for a ride with me that would know what a bad diff does?

You could have chucked a gear in there I seen one like this a month ago in a 01 forester and rjb is the last place I would take my car for a diagnosis I would take it to evergreen they know the car

your transfer gears are probably missing teeth. very common problem on these transmissions, the center diff will start to come apart and the big snap ring that holds the whole thing together will go through the transfer gears and take teeth off

Yeah from what I read I'm pretty sure its the center diff and maybe the transfer gears, and I was driving by RJB so I figured id swing in. The guy told me it was most likely my tranny and not the diff. Figure they were just tryin to get what they could outta me
