subes with diff locks

This is a mystery for us old scoobers.. I am wondering if anyone can tell me some EJ models with diff lock specifacally, or did subaru skip out on a world of accuracte documentation again.

I was watching this vid of the low profile tires forestor, and noticed a full use of awd.

I found not many knew about the old dual range I run and various settings. Are new subes doing the same thing?

4EAT scoobs will lock up center diff when ABS sensors detect wheelspin at one end and not the other. it's not not a full mechanical lock in the old skool sense, but effective none the less.

current 5MT scoobs have mechanical LSD in center diff, similar effect.

some Scoobs have viscous LSD at the rear, with instant 'lockup' from one side to the other if wheelspin is detected -- WRX/STI, 2.5RS, high end Foz and Outbacks

yep, 'full' as in full viscous with a higher degree of lockup compared to RS and WRX diffs. viscous is the best setup, very long-lived and bombproof durable.

funny you should mention that...is yours a 4EAT? There is a simple wiring mod that can fool the center diff into lockup mode, search the 4EAT tech forums at nabisco. basically you wire a switch into the center diff control wiring that tells it to lock up on demand...you just have to remember not to leave it on all the time or the diff gets mad at you with bad results.

Nah, I have a real transmission in my car

hey thanks.

I have had 3 of these, old school, pretty much the same for years and all different. a 3.7 2wd (supposed to be 3.9) was openat all times.

a 3.7 single range AWD, which swapped when it felt like it...but clever, all mechanical...it was kinda crazy with open, lsd and full lockup, random. the nystery was unravelled after deciphering the dual range

it is a full lock up in four low. LSD in 4hi, and open in 2wd. It goes to show, they overlapped all models revolving around the dual range setup. The d/r is the only one that actually guides it around, aside from 4eat as mentioned, old XT etc, special build.Somebody knows what they are doing, but does not speak english very well, explaining it. I refer to the old school origin, the rears are still swappable today.
