Suspension overhaul

Redline

Member
Okay, so my rear AGX's are shot. My H&R springs are really getting bothersome - little too stiff for my liking. Like my friend Joe said - "You run over a cigarette and you feel it".

I'm looking for a good, comfortable ride - streetable. Yet, needs to have a good edge on the course, too. Anyone have any suggestions on a good setup that offers comfort and performance?

Also, I feel like my vehicle doesn't absorb road impact well. What can I do (specifically) to make my suspension do its job better?

:sign5: :help:

it may possibly be the shocks that are giving you the roughness. underdamped springs can be some of the worst things to drive on.

bingo---my take on this exactly. if the h&rs are too stiff for ya, go back to stock OBS sproings and stiffen the agxes on race day. keep @ full soft for street use, they're not bad.

other option is to rebush with poly instead of rubber--a moderate PITA job, but ooh baby is it worth the effort.

Agreed with all of the above.

If you want to go with a competitive setup.. get some koni's with ground control sleeves or some tein basics.

I was very surprised will how nicely my car rides on the teins. Koni's are some of the best damped shocks out there.

But, at the same time, if you want to do something cheap, go with what Nigel mentioned, you'll be giving up a lot performance for autocross, but if you want a good ride that is something you'll have to do.

Also, the back of your car last year was SUPER LOW.. That would IMO compound the problem of underdamped springs.

when I take off the rear struts, I think I'm going to be putting on some top hat spacers. most likely 1/2 spacers, though I might need longer tophat studs. My wagon already sits low, but it's not solely because of my springs. I really think it's a wagon thing.

If they springs were for a 2.5rs or something like that, likely the rear would sit lower anyways because with the wagon there is a lot more weight over that rear spring than a 2.5rs.

I think Mike is referring to springs, not the struts.

Although, some V6 struts and springs would be very cool.

the ver...4? they made a STI wagon. why not get some of those springs i think they are the same price as say the prodrives ( AWESOME but hard to get now adays) and the regular sti springs for GC.

OK this is where I get flammed. But the OBS springs with AGX's, tho high, were awesome for AX. full hard with stiffest sway setting, left my car with very little body roll at Storyland. Yes, they raise the car up, but the OBS springs are stiffer than RS springs and would support the extra weight of the wagon.
