tranny, clutch, wire harness, ecu, clutch pedal, all clutch linkage, shifter, and probably plenty more i forgot

I have done all of this on my car. It's all doable, yet it's not very fun ... and I've been lucky on the parts for mine. It would likely not be worth it if you are buying and planning to swap. Just wait for the right car.

the subie 4EAT auto is not a horrible transmission. you can manually hold gears pretty well and not lose much acceleration compared to 5MT.

the 4EAT center diff uses a electronially controlled clutch pack instead of the 5MT's viscous setup, and it's actually better in snow. you can wire in a switch to lock up center diff all the time (in slippy conditions only) and come out well ahead of the 5 speed.

and yes, the auto equipped cars are generally in better shape because they ain't been beat to death by boy racers. this alone is worth serious consideration. I am looking at an RS coupe that has an auto, and it's in wicked nice shape compared to most of the beat ones out there.

I will agree. The 2+ years I had the auto, I had plenty of fun in it. I would manually select gears as you stated, 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> D ... I will tell you, when I started driving again after I did the swap, I kept asking myself why I did it. I'm glad I did now, but at the time I was hating myself

You did the swap on your second car with the 2.2t right, not your wrx?

I thought so. The reason I ask and wanted to point that out was because you've got a separate daily driver and that you're not doing swaps on that.

We're in Maine. If your main mode of transport is down because you're swapping stuff on it, it makes it hard to get to school/work/girlfriends/interviews/store/club meets/etc. Just some food for thought for the OP.

^^^^^HAHAHA. Owned again!

Yah swapping is not really the most cost effective, or easy way to do things. Have patience and find a clean car with a 5 speed already.
