I thought I would start off this thread with my review of Brendan and the help he gave me. Feel free to add your own reviews right here in this thread. Sorry if this is long winded.
Late summer of last year I decided to pull the trigger on a new turbo setup for my car. I picked up a VF52 turbo, IAG up pipe, Tial 38mm external wastegate, and changed my downpipe to something bigger. After then install I was left with a bit of a predicament, I wasn't able to get it tuned correctly for one reason or another. I was stuck running a rich tune and just running spring pressure on the EWG. Now at this point I have a a bunch of money rolled into this install, and essentially have a car that sounds nuts, but its no faster then my stage 2 setup before the turbo.... WEAK SAUCE!
So I set out to try and find someone that wants to tune this, or give me some advice on where I should go from here. I'm still not 100% settled on my method of boost control at this point either but I'm leaning towards electronic boost control. I approach a couple other tuners via email trying to solicit their help. I basically get an answer from all of them that they just don't have much for me because of my setup. They don't want to try and work with my EWG, and I picked up a 3 port electronic boost control solenoid. that's all the tuners... except BrenTuning.
I spoke back and forth with Brendan for a couple days, I got some stuff buttoned up and got my hands on a manual boost controller, and got that all hooked up. GAME ON!
Brendan immediately sent me over a base map for the car with my setup. This is where I run into my first issue. For some reason I'm over boosting, and the cars doesn't feel right. Odd seeing that I have a brand new MBC, and I know its set up right. Well Its back on the email with Brendan. Back and forth, back and forth, try this, try that, this this, try that. By now I think I'm going crazy. Over email he narrows it down to a problem with the MBC. Bren-1, Nate-0.
With a different MBC on the car and running good. We finally are able to get some tuning done. I get some logs, and some wideband readings, he sends me a revision. Now for problem #2. After a couple logging sessions hes finding it hard to nail down my fueling. He thinks I have a boost leak somewhere. I think hes nuts, but check a couple quick things where this "leak" would be, and find nothing obvious. In the meantime Christmas comes and I get a nice brand new Perrin TMIC under the tree. During the install, I find a HUGE boost leak near the throttle body. WHAAAAAAAA?????? (in my defense how do you expect me to hear a boost leak over a screamer pipe??) Bren-2, Nate-0. At this point hes been trying, and trying to tune my car with this boost leak, and I'm on my 4th (maybe 5th) revision to no avail. I fix the leak, turn back my MBC, and log the car. He sends me a new map for my air tight car, and come to find out its basically the first map he ever sent me with just a few changes for more boost because I have a good TMIC now. HAHAHA. God how does he do it? Bren-3, Nate-0.
With a fresh start and my car FINALLY mechanically all there, we go through 2-3 log session, and BAM my cars running good. The boost hits HARD, and pulls like a freight train. I'm really starting to fall in love with MBC, and how its interacts with my EWG. Even though I was ready to slit my wrist a dozen times or so Brendan was stead fast in the pursuit of getting me tunned.
All in all I have had very good experience with Brendan. His help has be invaluable. Saying "he knows his stuff" is an understatement. For him to be able to work me through a couple major issues, and still get my car tuned in the end is mind blowing. I would highly recommend Brendan to anyone looking for a tuner. I look forward to working with him in the future, as I know we will be doing business again.
