Anyone else on here kayak?

i know we have a bike thread, but i figured that pedro and i can't be the only ones into boats.

i have a 12' wilderness systems. i got two years ago. LOVE it, it has the best seat i've ever seen in a kayak. it's like the recaro of kayak seats.

maybe if enough people are intersted we could get a group together and go for a paddle some time.

i'm going to try and go twice this weekend up at sebago lake if anyone would like to join me.

Mines on the roof of the wagon right now. Thursday night kayak/fishing/beer drinking league (not necessarily on that order) I'll snap a pic in a few.

this is my boat

Wow Akina, that seat does look comfy. Tonight my little boy wants to come along so I borrowing a friends 42' tandem.

"iceberg off the port bow! Hard a starboard!"

And Pedro, hows that little thing like that big ole boat on the roof?

it is fine. I don't go and autoX with it on or anything, but I am content for the trip to the beach or whatever.

Where'd you get it? I demo'd a pungo 120 a few years back and loved it. Sadly i spent the money on a suspension for the focus instead of buying that (college budgets...grrr).

The 8 way seat or whatever they call it, made me fall in love. The adjustable things everywhere means your legs dont fall asleep on those long paddles! I want a WRB pungo right now!

yep the seat is friggen awesome seat back, seat back hight and like lower leg is all they have on mine. but that's more then enough.

i bought it 2 years ago now at joe jones. they had the same thing at ll bean for like 75 dollars less, but joe's was throwing in a free paddle. so i think i ended up talking with the manager there and told him that i was probably going to get it at beans cause they were cheaper and i wanted a carbon paddle. i happened to have the price list from beans with me so he matched beans price and threw in the free aluminum paddle. so i got a really good deal on it. and this was before i owned a blue subaru it was just a coincidence.

i think im going to try and go up at sebago this weekend, and i have a spare boat if anyone has a way to move them haha they don't fit the top of my coupe very well.

You should come do my lake with me some time!

Shorty - that's hot man. But one question... can you reach the kayak or do you bring along a ladder too? :happy3:

in a former lifetime, ole Nigel was sales director of Perception Kayaks. for a while in the mid-80s, he sold more kayaks than anybody (easy claim when your company is #1 by a mile, as Perceptions was back then)

now the kayak biz has changed profoundly. Pedro is right, Lincoln in Freeport is a great resource. It's owned by paddlers and run FOR paddlers, unlike the corporate places like Cabelas or LLB. Lincoln owner Sandy Martin and I used to race whitewater canoes against each other back in the day. Now he carries sexay kevlar/carbon sea kayaks on his Studbaker Hawk...super groovy combo.

I helped design the Perception/Aquaterra Sea Lion kayak...still have the very first hull in my basement, circa 1984. It's the one we used for developing the seat, hatch systems, rudder, etc...and has a whole lotta extra holes drilled in it to show what worked and what din't.

yup, kayak seats HAVE come a long way since we first molded space in the Perception seats for a 16-0z beer can...lots of paddlers at the time thought it was kind of scandalous. the good ole boys from south carolina at Perception thought it was a great idea, and kayak seats have just been getting more useful and more comfy since then.

dont kayak much now, ever since I got a 20-foot Lund with a 50-hp paddle on it.

I have been toying with the idea of trading up to a newer read: shorter model

I find it is a bit long for the paddling that I do now. and I want a more sea worthy yak sicne mine is designed for lakes/rivers. round bottom low draft type.

Sabattus Lake wasn't a total skunk. i caught one pickerel. Brother Spike caught 10 bass and pickerel.

I'm gonna skip next week for Rira's.
