Think it's blown?

YARRR SUBY MONSTER!!
img_2500.jpg

I was riding along on my motor bicycle, and suddenly I hear a weird sound going up hills or accelerating. Weird, WTF is that? Upon further investigation I see the head gasket seeping, and when I hit the throttle could feel a bit of smoke coming out of the gasket... yay. I got about 3 more careful miles out of it before it completely blew.

Fortunately it is a $2.50 part, and I can replace it in 2 minutes with a 10mm socket

if to still work on your own, there is ways to not get frustrated. Once upon a time, subaru had the same bolts in an oil pump as a fender, once upon a time not a single translation to foot pounds (or inch) was correct...and gaskets, you could make your own today as yesterday. the enthusiasm shouldn't be fading away into the complexity they have made.

There is more to be said for demanding international standards in the new subes, The old just has less moving parts, and more than several mysteries, from one machine to the next. I could guess what a dual range transmission is to take apart however, that is a unique thing in comparison to the new, in fact, they may be the only complicated thing.

a 2 dollar headgasket. Nice.

I agree things have gotten more complicated over the years. And that is why I like my bike. It is just a mountain bike with a very basic 2-stoke engine mounted on it. Super easy to fix, as long as I bring a few basic tools with me I can fix any problem. And now, I might carry an extra head gasket, after all, they are only $2.50
