To turbo or not to turbo.........

4WRXter

Skier!
I'm not necessarily soliciting advice, more just posting for the sake of conversation, and it has been pretty slow here the past few days.

I sold my RS. Now I'm "looking" for a replacement. The issue is that I have WANTED a WRX since they came out in '02. The practical (or cheap yankee) side of me says stick with N/A OBS, 2.5i. I have found a '05 RS wag on CL. Also a few interesting rexxies. And there is Mighty's awesome price.

The N/A car is better on gas and insurance. And let's face it, if you're (I'm) ripping down a 45mph twisty back road at 60-65(ish), ya probably can't (and shouldn't) go any faster in a wrx than anything else. And if ya (I) get caught, the ticket will cost me the same.

BUT, I know in my heart, I will be longing for a wrx. Of course there is always the FXT for the turbo waggie experience. But that is A/T and just doesn't swing the rear out like my RS did.

And there is the mileage issue. Most of the wrx's I have "seen" and can almost afford now, have like 125k and up.

OH, the tough decisions...........being grown up isn't all it was cracked up to be. >:0

if i where u i would go with wrx wagon so u get of the ups of the wagon and the turbo at the same time! not to many loses and being in the wagon class u can get darker tint and the insurance should be a little bit lower.

For the note, the FXT comes in a manual version too. A few people (Gabe, Jason, few others) have them.

my 05 rex wag is hands down the very best all-around car I've ever owned. It's more fun to drive than anything that's more practical, and more practical than anything that;s more fun to drive.

It looks like an '02-'03 budgetwise, right now. I would like the 2.5, but it just in the cards.

Keep the comments coming. Just for conversation.

My wife's car is an A/t FXT that I can access once in a while.

Which also figures into the "having wagon space" equation.

And I could always just drive my truck around locally, and use the Fozzer.

But I want a wrx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, 05s are depreciating to where you can get a decent 80k mile rex wag in the $10k range private sale...maybe even with extended warranty coverage if you look hard enough.

Iffen u see something like dat, I'd appreciate a heads up!

Oh, and before someone slams me for not heeding good advice, this is mostly for conversation, I have thought about a lot of the answers.

If you did not get a WRX would you be able to enjoy the RS/2.5i that you bought or would you be bumming that you had the chance to get a WRX and did not?

I am not trying to manage your wallet or anything by this: The WRX is s very expensive vehicle to insure and you have to run 91, adding more cost to the car already. I have never owned a WRX so I can't comment on how different it is in comparison. You can't make the RS/2.5i any faster, but you can make it handle as well as the WRX with a few upgrades. So, does it matter if you are bombing down back road at 45 with a WRX or with a RS/2.5i that has some supsenion/tire upgrades. To me personally it is still a subaru and still has AWD, just no turbo. It has all the fun without the added insurance and fuel costs.

hope this helps!

good pints about the N/A cars and quite valid

however, once you taste the power of the Evil Snail, it's hard to go back to being sensible

I'm a student, not married, and under 25. The RS works for me. If I had income I might be in boost land, don't know since I'm not living that life at the moment.

how bout a turbo baja?

holy Bad Resale Value, Batman!!

when the Baja first came out, I asked a friend who works at a Subie store, "how's it going with the new Baja?" He said ,"Faaak, I'm stuck with 6 of those turkeys."

John at your age insurance should not be a problem. I pay basically the same amount for my 07 Spec B as for my 01 VDC outback, full coverage on both.

wait..... you SOLD THE RS???
Yeah, I listed it thinking it would take longer to sell than it did. And we had (kinda still have, but nearly OK) some financial issues. Can you say delinquent renters?
