Top Gear in USA..

Yes, it’s true. The History channel and BBC Worldwide announced today that work has begun on an American version of TopGear, with US presenters fronting the new show. The first series of ten episodes will air on History next fall (an American-only season not dissimilar to ‘autumn’, we believe), though exact dates are yet to be finalised. It will be hosted by Tanner Foust, Adam Ferrara and Rutledge Wood.

Tanner Foust’s name should be familiar to TopGear faithful. He’s a renowned stunt driver (The Bourne Ultimatum, no less) and X-Games rally gold medallist who’s also done the business at Pikes Peak and in international ice racing championships. Not only that, he beat Jenson Button around Wembley Stadium during 2008’s Race of Champions. Rumours he learned everything he knows from Captain Slow remain unconfirmed.

Adam Ferrara (very difficult not to type ‘Ferrari’ there, force of habit) is a renowned petrolhead who ranks the Pagani Zonda F Roadster as his top car. Only, we may assume, because the Hyundai i10 1.2 hasn’t made it to US shores yet. He’s also a stand-up comedian and stars in firefighting drama series Rescue Me.

Rutledge Wood is a race analyst best known for reporting on NASCAR. Think Martin Brundle with a beard, but with no need for the words ‘right turn’ in his lexicon. We’re impressed that he owns a 1953 Plymouth Suburban, and even more impressed that it was given to him by The King himself, Richard Petty. That’s a good friend to have.

It hasn’t been decided yet if the show will air in the UK, but we’ll keep bringing you the details as soon as we can. Watch this space.
I am not familiar with Tanner Foust, Adam Ferrara and Rutledge Wood as much as I am the other people they were previously going to have.
My two big gripes:

First, they are absolutely utterly retarded for not having Adam Carolla like was originally going to be. He's opinionated, has raced in a bunch of celbrity races, and has some pretty cool cars. He's also legitimately funny. I think his CarCast podcast show is always entertaining. Wood? A nascar analyst? Now we're gonna have Bubba derp derp McGee tuning in and wondering why THEM PEOPLE FROM AWAY'S cars are being talked about instead of their Chebby TREE FIDDY which makes FIVE HUNNERT huss power.

Second, and is a legitimate concern unlike my personal opinion about the hosts. Top Gear works because they can rip on cars and show both the good and the bad. If they drive a chevy aveo on the show and say "oh this sucks and that sucks" etc. People are going to drop advertising fast because we're not allowed to have opinions or criticize anyone because of how big of pussies we are here in the states. I highly doubt the network would stand up to anyone and go up to bat for their show. Every review will most likely be a sugar coated look of only the positives, and if I'm proven wrong I will be incredibly surprised. If a car sucks, I want the guy reviewing it to say it sucks.

the english version has true players..and the big guy with all the sarcasm, that is me and my america.(I love that guy)

the hosts they got going for this look like a passifist weakling hero nerd, a moron adoring 20,000 rpm rice, and another with no clue whatsoever (punching bag for the other two "celebrities"?)

what the heck, that is as bad as american and autos.. like usmb to subarus. All freedom with a budget.. to heck with facts.

So they are going to be driving the corvette, mustang, camaro, and some dodge POS...

Why would I want to watch that? I can go test drive any of those cars myself.

Would I ever get the oportunity to drive an original McLaren F1? I think not.

If folks are thinking this might be as good as the UK Top Gear, they're going to be left wanting. Tanner Foust is big in American "extreme" racing and seems to have his hand in just about everything motorsports...from his Supercars Exposed show on Speed to co-hosting the Mecum Auto Auction...not to mention he races around the world. He seems to be a good choice to draw in the masses with a familiar face. As far as the other two...I don't know them. I'm siding with Dan on this one and will remain indifferent until I see it when it airs in the fall.

Can't stand Adam Ferrara, don't know Rutledge but if he talks a lot of Nastard crap I'm done anyway. Like Tanner.
