Can anyone on here help me get my wireless router working with my dsl modem. I cant seem to get them to cooperate for the life of me. Its a linksys wrt54g and a westell 6100 modem. Thanks in advance!

Connect your laptop to the router, and then in your browser navigate to http://192.168.1.1

That should take you to the router home page and it should have some basic welcome to setting up your router page. I know netgears do that, don't know about linksys and the wrt54gs as I usually put different software on them right out of the box....

You could have any IP confliction, IE. both your router and modem are default assigned to 192.168.1.1, try following Dan's advice and in the settings change the IP range to 192.168.2.1 and see if that fixes anything. The default username/password on a wrt54g should be either admin/admin, admin/password or blank/password. Or I can just set it up for you when we come down tomorrow

yea I know how to do all that and I know that usually people leave the modem in bridge and then do automatic dhcp server for the router but I did all that and it still wont work.

Totally forgot you have teh computer skillz, yea if you could take a look when you come over that would be awesome! Its been driving me nuts.

Can you get online with just your laptop plugged into the modem? In some cases you are assigned a static IP address, or need to enter some other settings before being able to connect your computer/router up to the modem.

Generally though you will not get an internal IP address (ie. 192.168.1.x) from a modem. Modems don't do DHCP. Generally you get an external IP address. Sometimes you get that dynamically, sometime you have to enter information. But first of all try to get online without the wireless router at all.

I'd offer to go help you out. But I'm in PA for a while...

You must have a login/password to connect to your DSL, right? Under the connection settings in the router setup there should be a selection where you can enter your login info. That should do it.
