Underdrive Pulleys?

OK, so i learned the hard way today in the parking lot at the mall, that I need to replace my starter. So, i'm thinking while i have the belts off maybe some under drive pulleys? do they really offer the benefit that they claim? and if so, are the ebay ones OK, I cant imagine a piece of cast aluminum could be that different, maybe i'm wrong....Any thoughts?

You don't need to remove belts to replace your starter. Did you mean alternator?
^^^^^^ Yeah, what he said.....

Underdrive Pulleys are not good for your car but lightweight pulley are a better their are a few people on here that have been running the lightweight pulleys for well over 25k miles with no issues

Has anyone actually noticed a difference in how fast it revs with lightweight pulleys? In theory it should work, but to what effect I don't know.

I had a lightweight Perrin crank pulley on my old RS and never had any issues, couldn't tell if it helped or not

It will help down the road if you get a lightweight flyhweel as well anything to decrease the mass that the engine has to turn will help

i had a lightweight on my svt focus and i noticed the different in revs big time. generally the ebay ones are not as light as some ont he brand name ones so if your gonan do it make sure you get the lughtest possible. one thing to keep in mind you cant have a powerfull stero system in your car with a lightweight pully because it dosent produce as much power and you main ruin your alternator

I have a lightweight crank pulley on my car. I like it. Made for noticably faster revs to redline. The one downside I see though is that with less weight spinning, you notice the engine working harder when the AC is flipped on. Losing weight in the pulley tranlates right back into the motor.
