It appears,do to economic factors, the chances of buying a new car in the next few years is between slim[sell the land]and none[wife says NO FREAKING WAY] :crybaby2:....so im becoming interested in doing something to make my rex perform better[closer to a STI] Any ideas?? Start on suspention first or exhaust and a stage 1 tune?? My ride is a stock 06 wrx Lt ,ill have to break it up and do one thing at a time ,to be able to afford it , and im NOT mech. inclined.Know a good shop in the area?? Thanks in advance for any and all ideas :headbang: Wzrd :glasses9:

Where abouts do you live? I am planning on having a garage day at some point. you could get some suspension in and a reflash the same day. and learn a little about your car in the process.

We live in bridgton, next hill over from shawnee peak....Thanks....i apreciate the offer, and would like to learn more about my car. After being injured a few years ago, the most fun i get to do now is taking my car out for a good hard run for an hour or so.My first love are american v8 muscle cars, and ive had a few, but i have no regrets trading in my 06 daytona charger for the wrc blue rex i drive now. :headbang:Only problem is the need for speed is like a drug, your always left wanting more :drunken_smilie:...thanks again for the imput.....Wzrd :glasses9:

Oh, man, are you going to have a blast, modifying a WRX!

I'm in the midst of an STi build, myself.

The first thing to focus on is air flow, ie. intake, exhaust, up-pipe and down-pipe, and a front-mount intercooler.

You can do a lot of research online & find out what combo, in theory, floats your boat best.

Fyi, http://www.clubwrx.net is an incredible resource for WRX modification data.

I'd go with COBB Racing's Intake and for exhaust, you can't beat GReddy, HKS, Invidia, or Perrin.

http://www.jscspeed.com is a great place to start shopping, their pricing and service are exceptional.

After the car's breathing easier, you should probably address handling, with upgraded rims & tires, (tires, at least!) sway bars and endlinks, as well as looking into coil-overs to replace the stock shocks and springs.

(Many coil-overs will work, imo http://www.tein.co.jp/e/products/index.html

makes some of the best suspension parts that you can buy.)

Best of luck with the WRX!!

i'd do a ecu upgrade if you're going to do the upgrades above, like pipework. the cheapest way is to get the obdII to usb cable and reflash it yourself, its under $100. do that then the same time as the upgrades, but keep in mind theres NO need at all to do a front mount unless you're going big turbo. you can get an STI top mount or aftermarket larger top mount and it will be plenty. the sti TMIC is obviously good for sti power, and that appears to be all you're going for.

i've seen 400whp on the stock wrx top mount, so its possible if needed for that power, but not the optimal setup.

i'd do the DP first, then up pipe, then exhaust and intake.

Desion has been made :idea1: on how to start my quest for a better /faster WRX. :violent5: Will be buying into cobb experience, stage 2 to start .As soon as the parts come in im off and running. Thanks for all the advice and help :glasses9:

good choice!

are you going with the catted or not?
The catted was recommended for the 06 due to non catted ones have boost spike issues :crybaby2: So catted it is,just waiting on the shipment date. :glasses9:

Swanky, good work!

I like Cobb's r&d, their intake is IMO the best one for Soobie tuning, bar none.

(It addresses the not so smooth air flow of the stock intake & fixes it nicely.)

I read about the boost spike in no-cats 06/07, of course we all run catted on the street.

Just wait until it's all installed and flashed, it's a totally different cah.

Update ...june 2/08 Do to back order on parts .... :evil1:we started with a cobb stage 1 suspension package and a set of STI springs....C ant wait for the next upgrade

Good deal.

Mine's about done, motor-wise, for now.

(Dyno'd at Dent @ 351AWHP/385# TQ w/ 50/50 meth/93 oc)

The quicker you get your exhaust and intake freed up, the sooner you'll really notive a big differencee.

A stock STi dynos at 220AWHP/220# TQ, and that, when it's new to you, is about f'in scary.

These new #s leave me in awe, and on Monday I expect to be blown away, when I pick it up for the run back.

I didn't cut any corners on the build, and it was taj=ken a lot farther than I ever expected it to be.

In the end, however, the gratification in knowing that you are driving a car that has, essentially, super-car limits, is priceless.

I doubt I'll ever push her to the limit, but knowing that the threshold is disturbingly high is comforting.

All the best with your build.

STIXXX...Like to check out your ride sometime if your in the area. You could give me some ideas :idea1:on which way to go.Im now looking into a guage package, but there are so many to choose from....Yah i like the super car feeling.I started with a 77 corvette 5-6 years ago got bored with it ,bought matching special ed. dodge daytonas, hemi orange ,both charger and the ram truck.Charger wasnt fast enough low end [4000lbs],also sucked in the snow.so i traded her in for the 06 wrx lt.Love the subaru and the ability to still run [ in between steet lights]with corvettes.... :evil1:

Bro,

I'm in the Sebago/Windham area.

I have business travel eating up this month, but I'd be happy to get together at Pat's Pizza in Windham sometime and shoot the sh*t with you.

On gauges: I'm no GReddy fan, but they make matching green gauges for the STi that look & perform great.

Defi's are blue, and red blurs at night.

Good gauges also cost ridiculous $$$$, I was shocked at the totals when I saw 'em...but phuck "cheap", so I went deep and got GReddy's with data logging.

Also, imo gauges aren't needed until you build something that will melt your motor if you phuck up.

(With the new tune-turbo, meth, etc., I log a/f, etc. to watch for detonation, but running an in the 11s, so my a/f's dandy for now-)

Was it worth the money?

I'll let you know tomorrow after I drive from Mass>Maine with the plug out of the HKS hi-power.

Heeheehee!
