The Brighton just sprung a leak in the gas tank. Very slow but steady drip. The problem is - the tank is full (12 gals). Whats a good way to syphon it? Anybody around Topsham had a bulb type pump or something?

I'm getting pretty bad gas smell around my house now and it sucks.....

HAAAALLLPP!!!!

Thanks

can you not drive it for a while? Leave a bucket under until you can get a pump.

edit: I'm assuming there's nothing between the gastank and the ground, but that's a stupid assumption, sorry.

Maybe put towels in the area around the tank?

Can you do the old use suck on a hose until the gas starts flowing and transfer it to a spare gas can trick? I do it all the time when I need to drain my motorcycle tank.

Demonstrated in this video:

kinda hard to route a hose through Subie pipe (plus i dont have a hose)

Just found in the manual how to syphen it. Walmart trip for me.....

This sucks

Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be that simple. Good luck with it.

some subarus have drain plug on the bottom of the tank they are like 12mm bolts usually
I'll go look. The manual said, take the fuel pump out and use one of those pump like for kerosene heater and stuff..

I have a brand new fuel tank that I bought for an 04 sti. No idea if it will work but you can have it for cheap if you can use it.

Take some anti-biotic soap and rub it over the hole untill it gets mushy and slides over the hole easy (the soap reacts with the gas and makes like a puddy that will plug the hole untill you get the gas out.)

the culprit was a busted fuel line. I syphoned whatever i could (8-9 gals). Now i'm high and reek of gas... it sucks

Put a piece of rubber hose on the broken line that goes to the fuel tank and put the other end in a bucket. Jumper the fuel pump relay on and it will empty the tank.

The stuff comes in a yellow tube. It's made just for stopping gas & oil leaks. Get a piece of innertube and squrt a gob on it. then push it on the hole. Hold it there for 5min. and then drive car till empty. There you have it. savoo

Problem is that the hole is inaccessible without taking the tank out, so i might as well replace the lines while i'm at it.

Napa has siphone hose that usually on older vehicles can go down filler neck. Then you shake the hose back and forth and then voila gas flows out faster then it goes in at pumps. I think the hoser is like $8.00

Thank you, i'll get that one. I used one of those K1 bulb pumps, got about 8 gals out before I couldn't stand the smell anymore.

Good one
