vf 11 and ea82

I searched net, found the ea82 got a "vf 8",

but am finding legacy stuff, cheaper, and a lot more of it.

I want to experiment (no chuckling please) with a 9 to 1 ea82 that came with a "super charge" of strange design, been removed for at least 20 years. Rather than break all longevity records known to mankind for an original build...

I want to home grow a turbo setup, subaru version, as the coolant and oil can be used.

how "big" is vf11? can blow off more than in or whatever, just curious...

and yet again, another suby oddity: the hitachi on this engine can blow through, like an old ea81...no injection needed.

vf11 tiny. It's the stock turbo on the 90-94 Legacy turbo. Stock, without intercooler it runs about 7.4lbs of boost. I've heard of them running up to 12lbs with an intercooler but I can't imagine they are very efficient at that level. Somewhere in one of my posts about my project car I have a picture comparing the vf11 to the WRX td04. Any particular reason you want to use the vf11? I'd look into using a td04 as they are also pretty cheap, but much better than the 11.

Nevermind ... just found the image. It's hard to tell because of the 90 degree elbow in the front of the vf11 but if you look close you should be able to tell the difference. td04 on left, 11 on right.

td04 is yet another common one. Thanks for info.

While I am at it...has anyone else run into problems on 87 octane from the pumps? I get strange stuff in the cold months, almost exactly replicating diesel...short bursts.

I looked up maines fuel stuff and they even use fermented wood now in the "10% ethanol" claim. I have changed all rubber hoses that get bothered by vapor as instructed. Even my pcv lines are titanium. This is actually more the reason to pump some air, even if letting a lot of it go. the setups are cheap and can bolt right in.

I used to quibble over turbos, never wanted one. I still do not want one to be crazy ricer fast either.
