Wagon's in for some much needed service

So, it's been a long winter/spring/summer of crappy pickups, cheap dirtbikes, and saab rally fabrication and researching. And as my shop's been occupied, The old Wagon's had gotten some good ol' warm suppers. So I decided to cash in a paycheck and my scrap copper and aluminum wire and get some parts. Here's what I've got on the way.

-cosworth rod berrings

-cometic head gaskets (hoping these will work out well, I've heard mixed reviews, any info will help)

-Headers and up pipe

-100 feet of exhaust wrap

-iridium plugs

-oil pump of dustins car (195k>65k)

-power steering pump

That's on the way, I just finished building my rear strut/frame brace. Getting a front brace. Taking off my old radiator/oil pan skid plate to make room for a bigger one. I hope to find the time to weld the seams, such as my saab project. I'm taking out my old sketchy K&N intake and making it work. hope to get around to making plexy or lexan dirt guards. New detachable light bar design. An interesting Idea to decrease body roll by using old seat belt material that I saw at the NEFR, and some serious zip ties on my bumper cover. The list could go on and on, I'll do a write up when I'm done. But If anyone has any input or the link to a good manual on rod bering changing ( lobstah, or dustin, whatever we used when we changed you're block would be very helpfull) let me know.

Jsid im so stoked have your wagon back out on the road again, so we can go out to do all my P.P.N! and Dirt roads.......

... ill talk to Lobstah to see if he has any info! oh and don't forget some rotors are coming your way for the wagon!

Update:

The motor's out after a few night's work, along with the bumper that is going to get some new lights installed. The project's been held up by a couple of saabs, including my side project rallycar/girlfriend-proofed vehicle. However, I should be back to work on it this weekend. I'm gathering pictures to post when I'm done. If anyone has any recomendations while I've got the motor out let me know.

Here are some pictures of this morning, and the day I pulled it. It's coming along pretty smoothly.

look in the bottom of oil pan for flecks of toasted bearings. it'll look sorta like what you wanna find when panning for gold...except if u find lots of leetle goldish bits in the pan of yer Suby, it's not good.

at very least you'll want to blow out oil passages in the block and crank (do u have access to air?). maybe get one of those skinny brush sets and swab out the passages you can reach with those. when u have the crank out, paint it with kerosene and blow all oil passages to get any pesky bits out, ditto with the block. assuming you are not tearing down the heads, if u were I'd blow out oil passages in them as well.

get that pan squeaky clean, don't want to introduce leftover bits of old bearings to your new set!

when building (rebuilding) motors, cleanliness is better than godliness.

Thanks Dave, I'll make sure she's clean as a whistle. Also if anyone knows how much a full gasket set from Evergreen is let me know.

More Updates. The heads are off, more parts on the way, and I'll be splitting the block soon. New parts include.

-Thermalator Intake manifold gaskets

-PCV valve

-Valve cover gasket

-Rear Diff lock bolts (kartboy botox bolts)

I may possibly order some FF1000 lights for my radiator mount light bar, and replace my two fog lights with my 500 lights.

+1000000000 for this speaking from experiance.

I've been quite obsessive with blowing air through the heads and blocks, and cleaning off parts every time I've gone to work on it. Should be pretty well spotless.
