What clutch component is dying?

Let's play process of elimination shall we?

My clutch is fairly new. Like less than a year new. I don't know who installed or if the flywheel was turned, etc, etc. I'm going with the assumption the clutch is fine. It's not slipping.

Here's the issue. When it gets warm, let's say 20+ minutes of city driving, the top 50% of clutch pedal has no tension, the bottom 50% is where i get clutch feel. when it gets especially warm, the clutch catches pretty low and the pedal will actually get caught at the 50% mark where the feel starts. nothing abnormal in terms of how the car drives or shifts, just the way the pedal reacts.

my first reaction would be one of the cylinders. Any inclination on which? I checked the fluid level and it does not vary. I topped it off and it doesn't go down noticeably. Because it varies with temperature, could it be a fluid issue and maybe i just need a full flush?

Hopefully I've supplied enough info. Lemme know. Nigel/Gabe it's a race for who responds soonest.

How old is your car? Maybe a flush would help. I did believe the clutch and the brake booster share the same system besides fluid so might be able to rule that out. I will have to look at my car again. My clutch catches pretty low on my throw but not like you are describeing.

yeah it's not like an sti clutch. that catches low by design and doesn't have a huge range of movement.

car has 150k on it.

so your clutch is hydraulic cause my 2000 obs is cable and needed adjustment after install

if yours is not cable then i would start with the slave its simple to change and cheap new

yeah it's hydraulic. i checked the ol' master fluid level today.

check it how though mikey? the only way i know of is just replacing it. i may try bleeding it and seeing if it improves

perfect!

i feel like it's gotta be something where the fluid would affect it because it's effected by the running temperature. is the slave internal or external?

at least there's that. i'll probably start at the master if it gets much worse because i'm planning on going with a new tranny in any sort of swap...

I never said it was milky.

Just reread what diabs was referencing. You must have read it quickly I was saying something to mikey

start by bleeding the clutch. it's a PITA cuz the bleeder screw on MC likes to let air in if you unscrew it too far. sounds like air in your system since it gets worse as things heat up.

also check muffler bearings and blinker fluid levels, could be those too.
