Just trying to plan out useful mods for whenever I get a car (we're heading out to WA in a few weeks where we'll be buying one). Headlights make it easier to see and they can change the look of a car.

All the seller says about these headlights is that they're "Projector" headlights, but I'm finding all sorts of stuff when I search for "Subaru projector headlights." Can anybody ID those specific ones?

edit: found these and these for imprezas, but the "angel eyes" are a bit ricey.

Not that I couldn't live with it...

From what I read they are crapola for light output. The stock crystal glass lights on an RS have very good light output for a stock light IMHO. If you want even more output, go for a set of Hella FF700's up front mounted on a light bar.

Please, for you own sake, do not get those lights. I got lights VERY similar to those on eBay and while I loved them at first, I finally realized that being able to see at night was more important than having different lights. I left them on my car and I'm glad I did because when I bent the front of my car it broke the housing on one of those ... that means if I had put my stock lights back on, THEY would have broke. Those are a lot more rice than then ones I got too, btw

Alright, thanks for the advice guys.

What are the laws on aux/driving/fog lights? I know that some have to be wired in through like lowbeams and one has to be through highbeams or something, right?

I lol'd at this:

That better be used for rallyX (but lack of paint chips is what makes me skeptical...). The top four lights a bit much, I liked it better with the square lights. (thread here)

How expensive would a setup like that cost for, say, a <2000 legacy? Two light bars, two square lights up top, two round on the bottom bar, and the two stock fogs?

I'm not opposed to ebay specials if people have had good experience with them.

Yea those are pretty ricey. Are you acctually planning on using these lights for something useful. The stock lights are not that bad.

Nate we had some similar ebay special lites on our GC rally car...they sucked so bad that driving at nite in the rian was like being blind. not much better than no lites at all.

as for laws on aux lites, driving lights must go up/down with high beams, fogs must go up/down with low beams. most ME inspection stations want them covered at test time.

don';t laugh at that bugeye with multi eyeballs, once you start adding lights it's addictive...really really nice to see everyting on back roads at night.

main thing with aux lites is to be super aware when using em on public roads, not to blind oncoming traffic.

I just thought the lights looked pretty cool (minus eyelid though).

So AUX lights are allowed to shine wherever, whereas driving lights aren't allowed to blind other drivers? Why not just have all your lights angled slightly down?

if aux lites are aimed down, they don't give you much add'l lighting, thass why. drivin lites aimed properly will burn into oncoming drivers eyes like a welding torch. moral of story is, "don't space out while using your big effin Hellas, OK?"

driving light pattern is aimed straight ahead, & well down the road; often times multi driving lites (like on yellow bugeye) have a couple aimed far down the road straight ahead, with another pair aimed a bit off to the side to show stuff in the ditches, or to shine straight down the road whilst u are sliding sideways

fog light pattern is spread very wide, not very high...ever been in thick fog whre you could see better with lo beams than hi beams?

In fog you're not supposed to use high beams

. At least I don't, it just reflects off of the fog and you can't see anything...

brilliant! correct answer, you winna prize. (free STI, contact Carter for details

no-hi-beam rule also holds when it's snowing, or you are following a car in dust or blowing snow

main thing fog lites do is illuminate close to the car so you can judge where the sides of the road are

No aux. lights mounted higher than headlights, all aux. lights must be shut off to on coming traffic, technically.

I think im going to just put some 3000k bulbs in my low beams and call it good. Should cut the fog and dark well enough.
