ok so ive been reading on soem other boards that maien dosent have 93 octane? is this true? please god tell it isn't. why the hell would they do that? 91 octane is weak plsu im sure they charge just as much as 93 would cost. please tell me there is a gas station in lewiston/auburn that sells 93

It slowly faded out in Maine. I had a local Dead River that I always went to since they had 93, but they got rid of it as well recently.

Get used to 91 my friend.

you might see from time to time, a pump that shows 93 still, but don't believe it. i've asked a couple times upon seeing that, and they fessed up that its just 91 , and they " hadn't had a chance to change the sticker on the pump yet "

DO NOT BELEIVE SIGNS AT PUMPS... NO NO NO! There are still little yellow octane stickers that LIE LIE LIE..... THERE IS NO 93...none...zippo...goose egg bagel....

Early in the summer I beleived I had 93...obvious I did not as the peformance of my car was sukking A**... After some discussions here (sighs)....what Ryan said..."get used to 91" which is something I am adapting to better than my car.. Oh man did I blast the owner of the gas station for mismarking his pumps....he probably wishes he never met me!

I am trying to get a hold of a quantity of VP racing fuels #C10. It has a motor octane of 96,, the type of adrenaline shot in the arm my car is lusting after.

I found a couple of those stations.... The people working at them couldn't even tell me or be sure what is in the 93 tank... COuld be really old leftover 93... could B whatever they topped it off with last time... WTF is that crap... for all U know U could be pumping molasses into Ur car.....

I still see stickers, take pictures of them and them tell the attendants their bosses are lying. The best one is Rte2 near Farmington across from the windmill icecream stand. It is a mobil with all his old 93 pumps still marked as 93. I think they leave them there to make more $$$$ off the cars that fuel up via the ice cream places weekely car gathering... not kewl at all. I know once upon a time I got some "93" there and my car ran like absolute buttmunkee.....

Again... I see no poijnt in octane boost... if the base media is no good ovtance boost will never help... Just like adding koolaid to Mexican water to make it taste good...

PS: perhaps a group buy would B in order..... Threaten a VP dealer witha decent size one time sale and I bet they will play...If done correctly volume sales are a great way to reduce overall overhead percentages and contain ones manufacturing costs. I have been talking to Ryan in Casco Bay and have seen a VP fuel deal in Auburn near the highway. Depending on it's shelf life I would easily inventory 100 or so gallons just to make sure I have it, if a few other people were into some gallons of it I bet would could come up with a decent size sale (500 gallons or so). With some careful planning I bet we could make it so we save 10-20% on the cost of better fuel.

god dam tree hugging hippie liberals. look likes im going to be stocking up on octane booster at pep boys
Careful with political bashing, ppl have got banned here for that.

As I understand, the loss of 93 is largely due to our friendly national ethanol lobby, which bamboozled President Bush and Congress into accepting the nice-sounding but misguided idea that corn can free us from foreign oil. Trouble is, making car fuel out of corn requires more energy than we get out of the final product.

So now we can burn more foreign fuel to make ethanol to save us from foreign fuel.

Mandated ethanol fuel is politically backed not only by farmers and distillers but also the petroleum industry, who incredibly has gotten laws passed that help them sell more foreign oil. No doubt some greenies helped get this thing passed initially, but now many enviro groups actually are leading the opposition to this silliness.

So don't blame hippies n tree huggers, hell they might help get our good gas back!

HA. I'm a tree hugging liberal hippie and I tell ya what, my motorized bicycle doesn't like ethanol. I want real gas back....

agree'd Nigel..... I bet they find withyears of research that these additives are no good for the enviroment... really what do humans do that is not bad for mother earth besides trying to undo the damage we have already done... by reactive instead of proactive is always a recipe for disater..

I also think this additive crap is contrived by the oil companies and pushed by lobbyists on multiple payrolls. I do not beleive for one second the additive cost them much to put in the gasoline, it is a lab made recipe for filler. I just don't see how the additive can cost anymore to process than the fossil fuel itself. IMHO the additives are exactly what they state... they are putting this in the fuel for next to nothing to "ADD" to the bottom lines for stock holders.

I have worked at more than one place where the CEO/CFO have been worried about nothing but the bottom line to accomodate and continually woo stockholders with absolutelty no regards for the future consequences to thier business or entire industry. I have also seen the entire laminating/photo-id market that I used to B heavily involved in go to trash in less than a decade.

ps; I can still make a better and more secure license than most of the states can and I have been out of it for 8 years....

well you guys said yourself your car runs like poop on 91 so why wouldnt i put in octane booster? hell if it give me an extra point of cotane for a whole tank of gas it was was worth the 3-4 bucks. Im a nut when it comes to 93 octane and sythetic oil. Whats the difference between octane booster and the additive they put in the gas in the first place?

i am by no means an expert, however i wouldn't rely on octane booster.

Becasue the boost is nothing more than a chemical additive to infuse the octane into the existing gasoline. If U start with a base that is crap U will never evolve to anything much more than that no matter what U add to it.

I have to much into my car... time, patience, aggrevation and not to mention the insane pile of cash I have dumped into the contraption since I have owned it. I only have about 9k miles, if U do the math of what I have invested vs. the mileage my miles cost a buttload....

I Would rather swallow the pill of paying a little more for gasoline and know I am not going to send any parts of my deadbolt turbocharger through my exhaust... again. I cant find the parts anywhere so I assumed my car passed them...

there has to be a solution besides driving to nh before a race or drive lol. has anyone seen any test number comparing 91 octane to 93 octane on the same car? not only does maine tax you out the wazoo they wont give you good gas to fill up your car you have to pay a ton of taxes on. really what idiot thought hmm yeah lets use all the corn in the world to make gas that sounds good. no one uses corn for anything do they. i sometimes wonder how poloticians dont run into doors daily with there lack of common knowledge

Kristoff... I have a series of methods to test these numbers... They all involve movement on my cars guages.. It my be small difference but I can hear it and feel it in my car without a doubt.

my solution is going to be the purchase and hording of VP C10 just to make sure it is clean.... the other thing is some of these mom/pop stations I have seen around here. God only knows how long the fuel has been sitting stagnent in thier tanks..... I would assume that there has to be some settling (other than sediment) of the gasoline mixture over time.. Unless they are using an agent to adhere the compounds together I would think they would break down... and if they do use an additive.. what is it and what does it do?

so your talking about doign a group buy for the gas at one station them bringing our cans and filling up and mixing it with the 91 octane? sorry ive never had less than 93 to use so i have never had to worry abotu this before im a noob on the topic

Np Kristoff.. I had to learn about this ASAP since moving up here... I was living a 93 octane sticker lie and wondering WTF was up with my cars performance... what it turned out to B is I was feeding my baby crap.

I have not looked at prices yet but it can not B that much more per gallon that regular gas. IF that is the case I plan on using it straight up instead of mixxing a ****tail so to speak. I still get back to not knowing exactly what they have added to or done to the fuel so I am going to try 100%...

I have discovered that the saving for a 55 gallon drum vs. a five gallon container does not seem worth it. U have to negotiate a much heavier container, get the fuel from it and deal with the core charges of the 55 gallon drum..

If I am not mistaken the fule is sold prepackaged in 5 gallon containers with a spout...I also have no practical way to transport a 55 gallon drum but my 4runner will hold a plethora of five gallon cans.

This causes problems in itself... If I do this now I need a chase car to carry gas for me! If I went to a MS meet in Portland perday I am bummin. I would have to resign myself to carrying spare gas, mixxing it down or just swallowing the pull of straight pump fuel. Crap we even talked about taking the sewbie to Cedar Point in Ohio for 4th of July weekend... at that point I would need to haul a trailer full of gasoline to accomodate my needs or "gasoline craps" at every pump.

OK.. I sit and type this becoming more and more bitter. The realization just hit me of how severly limited my range will be if I run pure C10... besode maybe carrying one spare 5 gallon in the back seat I would B ****** for refueling if it was more than a drive from my house.

HAH... lets set up an elaborate network of underground fueling depots for all us sewbie owners. If I had gas in my garage I would happily sell it at cost just to make sure no one ride popped. It could B like buying roadside pies....stop in where U knw it is, leave the $$$ and take the gas...

lol the underground railroad of 93 octane. you need handshakes and passwords and elaborate gps systems to find the hiden 93 depots. hey i have a lot fo land with my new house ill burry a giant gas drum and have a hidden pump in the back of my house lol. what is the penalty for black market gas?
