What would you use for TRANSMISSION fluid?

Since the clutch is blown and they guy I had do it for me takes the tranny out instead of the engine, I need to replace the tranny oil.

I know there is the OEM Subaru stuff but I was wondering what else you guys use. I know Amsoil is pretty good as well as the Red Line kit, but I only have 2 days to get the stuff so I need sometihng I can get in the local autopart store.

Post up what you use (Name and weight) and if you like/dislike it. Thanks in advance guys.

if you can find it in the boston area, i will meet you somewhere with it. im in waltham.
That's really kind of you. I appreciate the offer, I will check around some more today and see if it is worth the running around.

Ever herd of HMS in Danvers? They were one of the only places that actually had some in stock.

no, but like i said, if you get desperate, lemme know. otherwise, just throw in some stock stuff, and you can put in the blingy fluid later

I use:

2 qt Castrol Hypoy C 80w90

1 qt Penzoil Syncromesh

1 qt Redline Lightweight Shockproof

AKA "Uncle Scotty's Cokctail".

surprisingly enough, i've heard of good luck with this mix. I've personally used Syncromesh in other vehicles and loved it, so the combo they have there makes sense.

Works well... even though I've never had problems with the regular Subaru tranny fluid.

so the coktail mix is completly safe for the trannys as well? Any noticable differnece with this mix over just stock, amsoil, etc?

Dentsport is a stocking Motul dealer and not far from Waltham at all, did you check with them?

did not even think of them. Thank you.

What are the advantages of mixing the fluids? You get the pros of each different fluid?

Also, what does good tranny fluid do over stock tranny fluid?

It's definitely safe (even though some argue it's not...

), but as a general rule of thumb most people say not to mix fluids but it's widely popular on NASIOC.

The 5mt trannys are more picky when it comes to fluids compared to the 6speed tranny.

you have to watch out. Mixing fluids is like trying to mix water and oil. But, you never know if they are going to blend with each other or not. Plus, I would be careful what I pick up on Nascrap.

I would definitely try out the coc ktail. It's so popular that http://www.grimmspeed.com sells it as a package
