Whats with the spam bots today?

seems to be getting worse. it has to have something to do with our new google ratings. as the site becomes more popular we become more susceptible to these idiots.

worse part about it is, they are real people. we have preventions when you sign up that makes it impossible for bots to create an account.

i wasnt on today, sorry guys. usually i get a couple early in the am

monday mornings are the worse for all forums. We have Nailman on our side. He punches them out then kicks them in the junk.

its going to happen as membership and post #'s increase. I am sure U see the spiders, bots, webcrawler and such lurking here: they are collecting info for the search engines and drawing more exposure for the site...making it look really purdee for the search engines.

Success has a price...

The gaming site I admin got to the point where we required an admin to approve the registration then it sent a confirming email with a link to activate....then and only then will an admin change permissions to see the entire site. We still have our rashes of crap but they are severly limited and we are not above banning an entire ISP from a certain area of the world, dealing with DNS servers is another can of worms.

I imagine someday soon you will need to tailor the permission of all UR user groups to help block the spam...

This is a crazy great site and learning tool for search engines.

Ramen noodles is brayne food

yah its sucking hard.

like i said they are real people, which is by-passing our filters. its impossible for bots to sign on cause they have to fill in blanks that cant be read by bots. but with a warm blooded person behind the keyboard its skipping passed it.

i think we are soon to be activating a "answer a question" feature. we can set the question to what ever we want. set it to ask something anyone who knows subarus would know, and it will weed out anyone just trolling. but we run the risk of maybe ruling out other possible members that just might not know that answer.

I think U can even point tbhe answer to the question on the same page... It will still take a human to read it and answer it.

BTW, I do believe they have bots that will fill out basic forms on a website...

well they have to fill out a captcha..... which im sure you know is: a image file containing letters. so bots cant see the letters within the image. but a human can see the letters and fill out the required spaces.
