i'm swaping a 2.5 into a 95 impreza outback that had a 1.8 in it the tranny's a 5spd its the 4 bolt setup and it has the 24 spline. will it combust into a million pieces if i drive it hard?

it will probably be fine. im pretty sure the internals are the same as the 2.5 5mt trans with the exception of the final drive

yes it is so far been driving it for 2 weeks now.. i haven't been babying it either .. like snow/dirt to tar transfers with tires spinning and launching on dry tar .. seems be be holding up fine ...... its way to low geared for the 2.5 tho

a 1.8 trans has 3.9 final drive and higher overall gear ratios than a 4.11 2.5 trans (RS or Foz) so your 1.8 box should NOt be geared way too low.

make sure the final drive of the gearbox and the ratio of the rear diff match, otherwise you;ll cook center diff very quickly

get the trans code off side of gearbox (up near starter) it's on a white piece of tape.

go to ravensblade.com and search "trans chart" and look up that trans code.... to see exactly what you got in there for ratios

the front and rear are the same. it revs 3k at 60 mph

I used to run a 1.8 AWD gearbox/diff setup (3.9 final drive) with a 2.5 in my RS rally car...if anything that setup was geared too high. dropped in a 4.44 gearbox and diff...now we talkin!!

3k at 60 in high gear doesn't sound too bad, bet it's pretty peppy.

rotflmao, that's a good one

downsizing wheel setup is actually a pretty effective way to lower gear ratios. hillclimb cars do it all the time.

3k. holy crap.. add another gear to that one.

at 3600 with an old ea82 I am at 92.

the 2.5 should be even more gentle, but when the the long gears need the little engine it is not going to be tall.

I think my old one would dial out backwards too, if to put double horses.
