Wiper arm on Legacy?

Barb's drivers side wiper arm is free moving is there a nut that may have come off or come disconnected? I have never had a subie apart before just American stuff.

Sounds to me like 1 of 2 things.

1.) The bolt/nut connecting the arm to the rotating joint may have gotten stripped - it's possible it may have just gotten loose from the recent heavy snow. Try prying away the cover and re-torquing the nut.

2.) The drive shaft for the wiper motor may have popped off.

Ooo OOooh! I pick number 1.!>!!!1!

For some reason it happens every time it snows. Hundreds of them come loose. *sarcasm is oozing*

I believe there is a 14mm nut just under your black cap at the base of your wiper arm. Pop the cap off. Cycle the wipers once and let them park (stop). Turn off ignition, move loose arm to about where its suppose to be, and re-torque. Install cap. Presto!

From now on make sure the snow/ice/mud/debris/farm animals are clear from the windshield before operating the wipers. 8)

Thanks, I'll check the nut. No snow or ice there I always clean it out , that was drilled into my head as a teenager, I'll have to check and see if one of the ferrets may have got lodged under it. ;D
