Work sucks.

So - sorry that I bailed on the B+BS tonight, but here's what happened.

At 3PM today, my boss (on USM's Portland campus) and my wife's boss (on the Gorham campus) pulled each of us in to tell us that 1) my job is going from a salaried, $50k/year position to an hourly, $39k/year position

AND

2) my wife's position is being turned into a 60% time position, reducing her pay to $23k/year (down from $38k/year).

We just lost $26k/year. And we're under contract on a house in Yarmouth.

What...the eff.

ooooo stinky... At least you don't already have a house payment to worry about, under contract means you can still bail on it with little to no bad juju... Anything is better than forclosure.

Does not bode well for my MIL moving up here and taking a university job... she's making really good money at the U of AZ law school (she's in financial aid) but she wants out of AZ bad. Bowdoin maybe...

OK - zombie thread, I know...but here's the latest update.

They just offered my boss a sweet early retirement/layoff package, and she took it. I'm being promoted to her position, keeping my current salary, and they're going to let me hire someone to do my old job.

Wifey has an interview for a teaching position in Cumberland next Thursday (the same day we close), and if she gets it, her pay will be the same as it is now.

We went from "turbo suck" to "pretty farkin' sweet". Hooray for karma

I was lucky I went home at 0700 and didn't come back till 2300. IMO it was B.S. Freedom of expression should only go so far. Then they make our P.D. look like one of the bad guys cause we would have to stop the vet.
