WRX Subs

So i bought a OEM Sub woofer for my WRX on ebay from a salvage company. It came today, in a box way bigger than I thought it should. I opened it up to find not one, but TWO. The second one is slightly different in appearance, The bracket is made to fit under the drivers side, not the passengers. I only paid thirty buck for the two, so I decided not to shell out the $110 for the wiring harness, and wired them up myself. Works great. One under each seat, just the right amount of low end. I wish they made the crossover and gain controls easier to get to though.....

if anyone is in need of the wiring info as to not need the harness, let me know. It was pretty easy.

Haha you lucky SOB! I bought mine from evergreen and had it installed for like $300. <---- Not worth it. It does bump a little, but I still wish it had more. I bet two does it pretty well.

Gspot, you should have let this old geezer talk you out of that.

Its nice enough for a plug and play $100 sub, but above that a Wally-World sub will kick its ass. However, $30 for two hidden subs is fantastic!

I really wasnt looking for a real banger of a sub, just something to add a little more depth.....I deal with audio for a living, if i wanted it to bang, bang it would :-)

Ill post up the wiring info in the morning....it should apply to 02-03 wrx.

ok, so I dont know if you have the clip for the sub with wires ( half of the harnes) or not......mine did, but anyway....

The pinout of the subs (on 02-03 mind you) looks like this.........

X X X P W

G R X O B

X = empty, or not used,

P = Purple (or Purple with brown stripe).............Left Rear (+)

W= White (or white with Brown stripe)...............Right Rear (+)

G= Grey (or grey with brown stripe)...................Ground

R=Red (or red with black stripe)........................(+) 12V Switched

O= Orange (or orange with black stripe).............Left Rear( -)

B=Black ( or black with brown stripe).................right Rear (-)

with that said, you need to make yourself your own wiring harness, and connect them accordingly......

the Subwoofers Red wire needs to connect to the Blue wire with the white stripe on the back of the radio harness

the Subwoofers Orange Wire needs to connect to the Red wire with the black stripe on the back of the radio harness

the subwoofers White wire needs to connect to the Blue wire with the yellow stripe on the back of the radio harness

The subwoofers Black wire needs to connect to the Red wire with the white stripe on the back of the radio harness

the subwoofers purple wire needs to connect to the white wire with the red stripe on the back of the radio harness

the subwoofers Grey wire needs to connect to the black wire on the back of the radio harness.

Now I must emphasize, this should apply to 02-03 WRX.....no garauntees are made otherwise, and I am not to be held responsible. your wiring is your wiring.

I used the crimpon tap connectors for all my hookups, as to not need to cut any wires behind the radio, for 3 bucks, its worth while.......

Feel free to ask any questions if need be....

the stock underseat subs work great. I only have one under the passenger seat and it adds enough so that the music is enjoyable to listen to but it doesn't make it sound like i have cans in my trunk. two would be perfect. Just be careful because stuff like a soda can can sit beside it pretty well stuck there until you reach under and remove it and the same with paper or whatever. Then every tiny bit of bass sounds like crap until you pull over and remove everything lol. Just keep your car clean and you will be all set though.
