WTB subaru that needs engine! (2.2L)

My girlfriends family has a 2000 impreza outback sport wagon that's really seen better days. body rot, half the windows are cracked, tons of drivetrain issues. Runs awesome with only 140K miles SO, what I'm looking for is any subaru 1995+ that can use the bulletproof 2.2L engine that they can buy and I can swap the engine into. Does not need to be perfect, just needs to have minimal rust and no drivetrain issues, I want this to be a straight swap with only some minor additional work. looking for something no more than $1000 to get them back on the road.

Why don't you get something that can use the engine out of their impreza, since it runs so well.

Find something on craigslist with a blown head gasket.

ive been keeping an eye out for those, the plan is to find a car that is as close as possible to this impreza so we can use it for parts if needed, this engine just needs a tune up and its got another 100K+ miles so finding one with a bad engine would be great, im asking around here to see if anyone knows of one that's not currently listed on CL.
