Dude do the OEM filter. The new ones are made by Purelator which is one of the best filters you can get. Plus, Most aftermarket oil filters run a smaller oil bypass filter switch (internal to them) I think the OEM Subaru's are around 14 psi. Most aftermarkets are around 4-6 psi. There is a huge diffrence. So soon as the filter starts getting clogged a little pressure goes on on the oil filter and next thing you know the bypass opens and filter is hardly doing its job.
This is coming from a guy that "used" to run Mobil religously. OEM all the way now.
An oil thread for the x-quick lube guy...
I had no clue about oem filter. I did learn it needs something special. I simply went with fram extreme something or other.
given subes pressure relief for their oil starts open at 45psi...what in freakin hell good is a filter that reliefs at 14?!
unless the EJ is pretending to be ecofriendly and hardly pumpin anything? (looking at the pump, I could answer my own question)
as far as oil goes, not that my quick lube time of tortured employment swayed me..
castrol is very good. Just about any bottled is, with a brand name...
that means stuff you find at irving and mobil can go to hell.
I got so frustrated with gas stations, I carry a gallon in the back of my car..bought from a parts store.I have been that way since the mid 90s. It is as if the station knows the desparation to buy a quart there..and does not have to care. Odds are to get strange oil, from a station. Unlike the past...
even my favorite citgo, or shell.. I buy no oil there. Irving has got to be the biggest culprit ever, bad oil in a jug.
temps below 200 are not uncommon for boxers.. I would hope that trend stays for more than not. they run a long time if they stay far away from boiling.
