2000 RS with blown engine

I have the opportunity to buy a 2000 2.5rs with a "blown engine". The kid ran it out of oil and now its knocking and crying out for my help. I can get it REAL cheap and was wondering if anyone had an engine (2.5 obv.) that they were willing to sell, ive seen all of them on CR and Uncle henrys, just wondering if anyone had one that is all.

 
i think its dohc bc its an RS if that's what you're wondering

 
99-01 are phase II SOHC

evan has one for a great price and lobstah will put it in for a great price, correct sergei?

 
*most* 99's are sohc. 2000-up to present non turbos are all sohc. that was the changeover year but they werent all that way. you'll just need to ask him to read off the engine code (ej25d or ej25e i believe) or check for the shape of the timing belt cover.

and yes, i have a sohc with brand new metal headgaskets and a new goodyear timing belt for $650 in cumberland.

he entertained an offer of 400$ bc he wants it gone..its a dk blue 4 dr with six spokes and the typical subie rear 1/4 rust

i figure even if it takes me a while to put an engine in it, its still worth having

 
hes waiting to see how much it will be for a garage to buy a new engine and put it in..he said if that's gunna be a lot its going up for sale with me the first to know...im not getting excited about it yet

 
Found a similar deal,00 RS sedan with a "blown" motor,new stage 1 clutch & lightweight flywheel,new struts and rear wheel bearings,$500. Same rear quarter ruat,exhaust leak. Blown motor was a combo of a bad timing belt and timing belt tensioner! motor only has 98,000 miles on it...all said and done should have less than $1k in it and will have body,and paint done this weekend,and on the road soon after. Hopefully your friend "gives that bad boy too ya,should have no problem finding a reasonable deal on a motor.Good luck.
