Since that grille is not integrated with the hood (like on the 08 outback) there will be aftermarket versions. Also, if Subaru continues with the Forester STI, it's guaranteed that it won't have that tacky chrome grille. Like all Foresters, it's to high and too "suburban". Nothing lowering springs and a few choice body parts can't fix.

it's gonna be pretty hard to fix that ugly beast.

plus.. isn't it based on the leggy chassis now?

Why is it that Subaru is going ugly and Mitsubishi's are getting nicer looking? I think Subaru may lose some sales.

You should read this month's Car and Driver 2008 STI review. Csaba Csere had some less-than-flattering remarks about the design direction Subaru's going in.

I love the reaction every time a new model is released. Everyone gets all butthurt and calls it ugly. The thing they never think about though, is that Subaru is in the market for one reason, to make money. And they've spent more money than the collective incomes of this forum on market research, and have determined that this will sell to the market they are most interested in, the masses that don't own a Subaru, as in not the enthusiasts. Subaru is not stupid, they know that if you are regularly active on this forum or one like it, you are an enthusiast and will most likely buy a Subaru regardless.

This same thing happened with all the recent Impreza's since the bugeye (and boy am I tired of hearing "bring back the GC), yet each new model has been consistantly been breaking it's own sales records, so they must be doing something right. Personally, my favorite Impreza is still the pignose.

However, if you still think the Mitsubishi's are better looking, by all means go buy one. I'll be sure to wave to you when I drive by the dealership in my Suby, while your Mitsu is in there because it's broke again.

The market they want to sell to with this new STI is - and this is what Subaru themselves calls us - the "affluent man-child".

In a sense, yes. But I'm sure even with the STi, they want to get as much new blood as they can, from competitors like Mitsubishi (Evo) and VW (R32). But, you have to look at the bigger picture. The STi is nothing but a high-powered and sporty Impreza, and the base Impreza is their bread-and-butter. You can't tell me that they don't sell WAY more base Impreza's than STi's or even WRX's. And that is the market they are going after with the base Impreza, and by default with the STi.

The camry and accord sell well too.. They are just trying to appeal to the mass market, and are doing well with it. but at the same time dumbing down the line with every step.

Just wait till they're out a few months and some peeps have pimped 'em out... then there will be comments like "WOW THAT'S HAWT!"... blah blah. If they build it, they will come. Subaru owners will remain loyal. If they kept the product looking the same every year everyone would be bitching that it never changes.

whutevah...

Well, here you go... the JDM 2009 Forester XT... We prob won't get it here but we can sure order the parts... that is unless they offer it as the XT Sport...
