it's JDM... they drive on the other side of the road. They put a lil' mirror on the passenger side so they can see when parking, etc. LOTS of cars have them including previous models of the Forester, Toyotas, Mazdas, you name it.

I always thought it was a periscope so you can lay down on the seat and still drive.

The Japs have had those for years.
