It's not a sports car. If you think it should be, you're missing the bigger picture. The new gen impreza is turning into a baby legacy, this is a good thing.
If you've been keeping up with the press releases, you'll notice we're getting a new WRX platform in 2014...
This generation gets lighter, by 165 pounds, which in this day and age is fantastic. Bigger greenhouse (unless you're tall and in the front). The new 2.0 makes less power than the SOHC 2.5s, but will be better on maintenance (timing chain) and fuel economy. With the weight reduction and the gear ratio changes most people wont notice.
The CVT will make it super efficient. It's a good direction for the base model.
You need cars that sell well with the general public. Big picture folks.

the vibe and matrix are the same car!!!!
I don't like it really....lack of styling...looks a lot like a kia or hyundai.

*0-60 1.6 seconds slower than last year's Impreza.
*Sharper handling from revised suspension and lighter vehicle, and pushed out contact points.
* Same intrusive traction control and vehicle dynamics control as last year.
I've made up my mind. I don't like any Subarus newer than 2007.

Really? How much bigger are they compared to a 05' to 07'. Same engine. Are we talking about one or two hundred pounds. What about WRX/STI? Can we have our cake and eat it too?

They didn't weigh more.
The suspension is garbage for rally on 3rd gens and they got classed out motor wise.
Subaru is building a new car and motor specifically for WRC. New WRX 2014. They need a way to pay for it, and selling efficient imprezas to the general public is the way to do it. Period.

funny, I bought that same issue of Motor Trend, and it had the bright orange Focus ST as the cover car instead of the red Impreza...wtf MT?

Right off the bat 2014 STI looks like a riced out Honda Civic with a hood scoop. Not that ricing is a bad thing (if it is done tastefully). Remember, it's all those cheap body kits and throw away spoilers that give USDM a bad name. At least the Japanese know how to use our parts in a politicaly correct manner. Point being. If you are going to do something; Do it right! That also goes out to you Subaru. Not that I don't like the new look but let's face it; it looks like a Civic. Nuff said!
