22t dohc hybrid Shopping List

Hey guys (esp Mikey)

I need some help making a shopping list of parts needed besides heads and a short block.

Examples: Intake mani from what models/years? Exhaust same question. plugs, injectors, etc.

What would the difference in supporting mods be for vf39 vs. the wrx stock turbo?

i held out longer than you might have thought though right?

takeoff wrx turbo would be slightly undersize for the 2.2 vs stockblock 2.0, which might cost some hi end boost but would spool quicker

picks yer horses n takes yer chances, aka decisions, decisions.

here's another decision you gotta make sooner or later -- are you planning to stick with stock RS gearbox. i'm interested in swapping a 2.0t into snowball and stick with the 4.11 box even tho 'conventional wizzdom' says the stock box wont handle the powar. methinks if one shifts mindfully and installs a clutch that will manage the torque that this could well be a pretty cool combo. compared to a std 3.9 wrx box, the RS trans is a workable step towards a rally-type 4.44 ratio.....hrmmmm [[lil brain starts churning]]]]

My plan is to run the stock until I decide to jump to something bigger than the sti turbo. When I do that I've given though to a fozzy xt gearbox. 4.11 as well

I really want to build it in phases and make sure to work out the real headaches that WILL arise than end up with something unmanageable.

The stock RS tranny will take the abuse just as well as a WRX tranny will. There is really no difference in stock form

I'm trying to weight the benefits now of getting a stage two clutch when the stocker is less than 10k old

Mark, i will reply to your pm later, and also give you a list of stuff you need! Still using wrx heads, or u gonna use ur stock ones?

so...i'm about to have some new heads en route. they are the same as mine (Phase I DOHC 2.5 n/a) except they've been cleaned up and had turbo cams added which should help. if i understand enough it should help the compression ratio and the rev limit. i'm happy to have some nice heads that i don't need to mess with wiring/ecu to use. that's extremely helpful.

as far as i understand i'll be using my existing intake manifold, and other various pieces scavanged from my long block.

i need to understand what uppipe/downpipe/exhaust mani to use/buy. i also need to figure out where in the hell to buy ej22t cometic headgaskets.

any help is much appreciated. i've been searching on rs25/legacycentral/nasioc and at this point i know as much as i'm finding from them.

turbo cams wont help with C/R but the reduced overlap will help power.

use stock 25D intake manifold.

use any header/up/dp for wrx, sti, legacy turbo etc..... they are interchangable.

go to subaru and order HG for a 91-94 legacy turbo.

you will need a stock sti or walbro fuel pump, as well as the AEM F/IC computer, and larger injectors, some 370cc ones from a SR20DET nissan are cheap online. Or you can get yellow top 550's from a 04-05 sti

What are you doing for a intercooler? Exhaust system?

Have they upgraded the head gaskets for the Leggy Turbo? The ones I have on my motor don't look like they're made of metal and I've been told by a couple other people to get the newer 2.2 non-turbo gaskets because they are 3-ply metal gaskets.

you cant use the newer metal gaskets, they are too thin and the pistons hit the valves.

the oem gaskets are composite and have held over 30psi on motors ive seen online. that's good enough for me.

Hm, the guy I asked seemed to know what he was talking about ... guess I shouldn't have assumed where his motor isn't even in the car yet. Thanks for saving me a set of heads!

No problem. Ive done my research on 22t hybrids, and ill answer any questions i can for you guys!

so it looks like the AEM unit is universal, and i can get it for 350 on amazon new. would i be smart to look on different forums to try to find a deal on it used? if so do you know any honda forums that might have it? the ones i searched were terrible

for exhaust i guess i'll do stock wrx/sti header. sti uppipe, then whatever exhaust comes my way cheap enough for the turbo back. as long as anything wrx/sti fits then i'm golden.

for IC i'm gonna go ebay FMIC

With a wrx/sti downpipe, anything that would fit either should work.

yeah, my cheap side is telling me to get some of those no name JNA exhaust for like 200 bucks, but my former sti side is telling me to get a used invidia setup; since that's what i told everyone to get
