Audi suspension?

all of that depends on weight, wheel travel, intended ride height, and what you can tollerate for a ride.

can you tell me what model and year Audi this is we are talking about? I might be able to get you a better idea on those specs.

I havn't been around all day...been working in the horseflies and the mud...

Konis pros: adjustable, good firm ride on the road, cons: rallycross will destroy them, pricey

Bilsteins pros: the sherman tank of the shock world, infinately adjustable (if you take them in), ride pretty nice, cons: pricey for a non externally adjustable shock, that's aboot it...I put them on everything I own

KYB GR2's pros:cheap...you can replace them 3 times over for the price of the bilsteins...4 times over for the price of konis, they'll survive OK...the usual upgrade for Subaru people who want a close to OE replacement...a slight step up, cons: cheap, they're not going to ride like the konis do on the road or the bilsteins do on the gravel

Boge Turbogas: pros: eh...not cheap...but not super expensive, upgraded OE spec, cons: nothing spectacular...don't expect anything more than GR2s would get you...but for more money

JVFAB: pros: 50mm Bilstein gravel struts, hardware is welded onto the shock body, if you break them...you're doing it wrong, Vittorio Barres runs them on his open class 4k, cons: nothing really...just about the best gravel suspension you're going to find for our cars, he quoted me $1000 last time I talked to him...which isn't really too bad.

Bottom line: go with either the Bilsteins or the KYBs...you'll cry when your Konis are blown out after their second rallycross from bottoming out too many times.

As for ground control, just don't tell them what you're doing. Just call and ask for 2 sets of 4k rears. Came out to like $400 last time I called them to check.

Oh yea...and don't forget to order new trackdensity strut mounts from 034. I change them every time I take my struts off...stock ones are only good for maybe 20k of normal driving. The 034 ones I'll give maybe 30 or 40k...but with rallycross beatings, they still wear out quick.

Ty,

do you have a link to JVFAB? I can't seem to find them.

and what do the CG audi 4K mounts look like? is there something special about that setup that makes it $400?

just for the adjustable mounts.

Ty, do you have any pix of the install on your ride?

we might be able to put something together for less money.

I don't have Johns setup on mine. Just Bilstein HD inserts.

I'll try to find a picture, I know there's one out there.

EDIT: That didn't take long...hahaha.

the next time you have one out, I would like to take some measurements.

are they inverted type inserts like JV uses?

god i want those they look like sex, but the whole setup would run out of my price range, for a non stage rally car

They're not the same gravel struts as John uses, little smalller. The inserts are inverted struts though.

A grand for that setup isn't too bad considering what you were looking at. 2bennett's setup was more, and Koni's with a ground control setup would be more as well.

ok so i am thinking of getting the HDs sooner, and then this winter make the coilovers
if you get them, can I get you to take some measurements for me?

I have been looking for some inverted type struts for a super secret squirrel project......

well does that include the shocks and coil overs or do i need to buy the shocks, if its the complete thing i might splurge and buy them

might be able to find the measurement online like motorgeek or from the bilstine site

John's setup is all one piece. The coilover threads are attached to the shock body. The control arm brackets and steering arms are welded onto the shock body.

It comes as pictured there.

There's a bit of lead time with his setup as he has to fab them up himself.

Hell...if I can get ahead of even a blown 50mm gravel strut (they're rebuildable anyway), I would pull one of my stock strut housings out and take some measurements and fab one up myself to see how tough they would be to do.

yeah if you want those, be prepared to wait a while.

but it is one of the best setups. make sure you don't fool yourself when you order. let him know that you will be DD'ing this setup and rallyXing it.

if you don't, you will surely tire of the ride.

Yea. I think Vittorio went with 300 for the rear springs and 325 for the fronts.
