bigger exhaust?

2.5 is as big as you would want to go for NA subie. Our 2000 RS has Borla headers, stock cats (for now in ST autox class), and a borla cat-back. I'm pretty sure it's 2.5in. It sounds great and performance was definitely improved, especially on the top end.

I'd have a hard time seeing much gains from Equal Length Headers on an NA. Plus you don't want to loose the rumble!

Too much info here: http://www.cobbtuning.com/info/?ID=3222

NA stuff is farther down the page.

On my 05 n/a Baja, I have Borla U/L headers with a Random Tech C/B exhaust, stock CAT and 2.5" dia. all the way back. The rumble is incredible

There are some who say that 2.5" is to much, and that you lose low end torque, but in the 2 1/2 years that I have been running it, I have no regrets. Plenty of torque, even with my oversized tires (215/70 R16s). I have a video clip made this spring, posted on this site that the rumble comes though quite well. "romp in the mud"

if i ever come up with a huge amount of money, i'll buy the 05 headers and cats to make the rumble. but for now, i'm planning on acquiring that larger diameter midpipe (2.5ish) and putting that on with the dynomax bullet, and when i get some overtime when it starts snowing, i'll build the 2.5 inch axleback

thanks guys:D

Hmmmm interesting I learned something new. Didnt realize the NA's come with equal length.
The whole point of the UEL is because of having a turbo. Less piping. So on the N/A it just makes you loose power and adds piping, so there is no reason for subaru to make them UEL.

and i thought they just did it to make them sound prettier:p

All of my old Subarus have unequal length, and so did my 97 Impreza. No turbos on any of those. So this is the first I've heard of equal length on N/A's

in 06 the n/a all switch to el headers
Thanks Gabe. I knew it had to be a new car thing.

Nate, look at the pipes that come off the bottom of your engine. They both go back and enter into a cat. Look to see if both pipe are the same length (equal length) or if the are different lengths (unequal length)

ok, if the borla headers on this page are unequal length, then mine are equal. The pipe goes back from either side, it doesn't loop around the engine on one side.

Factory headers do not look anything like aftermarket. Just look at the length of your pipes, where they go from the engine to the cat, is one a little longer?

I honestly couldn't tell. I couldn't get far enough under it, and I starting puting it up on a jack but it wasn't going up so I figured I put the jack under the wrong thing. You're supposed to put it right against frame, right? I couldn't find any bare frame.

hahaha

I'll bring it inside, its just cold enough that I have to wear a sweatshirt, but not cold enough that the sweatshirt doesn't make me sweat...

On your 07 if it is a non PZEV. I had an 07. In my honest opinion the best bang for the buck is a Good axleback. Prodrive or even a STI. Your stock diameter piping is more than big enough. Pre 06 it was a bit smaller. Also get yourself a WRX snokus and resonator for your airbox. It will fit great and will bring you much cooler air than the one you have stock. With this setup I had to keep the factory panel filter in because it would stumble just barley at 6k rpm's. As the stock tune could not keep up. you WILL loose some low end torque but gain some on the top end. On my 08 Pzev Forester the best setup is the stock one because as much as I like the sound there is a big lose in low end. I would rather have the low end and smooth pull to 5,500 rpm. These are just my opinions. And sounding faster and our butt dynos are not always true as if you were to use a stop watch. Below is a pic with the wrx snorkus on my 07 wagon.

I have a custon short ram, and wrx snorkel^^^^^^ and I ended up with the rallitex inner fender silencer delete, which is supossed to feed more air faster, but looks like it just makes it easier for debris to get lodged in the filter. and my axleback is stock wrx piping with ultraflow. flows like can but wayyyy quieter. I'm pretty happy with the sound now, and don't want to sacrifice it if the gains won't be well worth it
