death of a ricer...birth of an rs

So....... I had it tested today at the shop. It was 100 db at 3k and it jumps to 106db letting off. Tad bit loud I suppose.

Got the new motor today. Ej255 out of an 09 wrx that was shooting oil out of the turbo.

Still has the visible cross hatch marks. Yet it's very dirty inside. Needs a lot of cleaning. Through out my afternoon appointments at the shop I found time to tear it down. Pulled the pistons out

put them all in the parts washer and ill replace all the rings. Not sure why I marked them. Got all the bolts off and split the block.

Before lunch I pulled the rod caps off to inspect the bearings and got a nice surprise. All 4 bearings are junk especially the two centers. This thing was blowing oil so bad past the turbo it had oil dripping out the tail pipe

Nope, just lack of oil killed them. I checked the crank with my micrometer and it's all still in spec. that would of been another 275 for a new one. I just need to get parts from my friend at pape Subaru and it can start going to back together.

Cleaned the pistons in the parts washer and let it soak overnight. Cleaned all the burnt oil off really well

Got new heads and intake today. Heads are super dirty and need to be cleaned. Diy hot tank. Currently washing. I pray for good results or I'll be scrubbing the dish washer later!

I get to live another day. Heads are a lot cleaner. Still some crap in them so I'll take them to work and use the real parts washer.

Looks like your motor is coming along very well! Will be doing the same thing next year with a built 2.0 block with different turbo! Can't wait!

so I was given the wrong bolts apparently...washers are way to big so its all going back!!!! time to wait again......

im going to be using rs heads so my questions is should I be using rs head bolts or should I get the wrx bolts? seems like I should get rs bolts...any ideas?

I'd stay with the RS bolts. The difference between the OEM WRX and RS head bolts is the washer diameter on the bolts. The wrx/sti bolts have all bigger washers whereas the ones for the sohc heads (EJ251, EJ253) have 4 big washer bolts and 8 smaller ones. If you put the bigger ones where the small ones go they wont want to fit and if you force them you will crack the heads. It's recommended to buy the correct bolts for the heads you are using.

Crisis averted at subaru. I was given dohc bolts instead of single. Oddly enough the price difference was enough that I got some Sti head-gaskets. All parts in tomorrow I hope. assembly then I'm hoping
