to you!
i like your head lights LOL

+1 for factory shortblock. same $ as used motor, minus the question marks.
but run the old one until it croaks first

might surprise you and last a long time

so what if it clatters a leetle? that's what Lucas Oil Treatment is for! (seriously)
if you enjoy a running engine, stay the hell away from that sh%*!
it foams up.

bad.

foam is teh motor death.

ask me how i know.
OK, I'll bite. How do you know? I have run it in many motors with noticeable (beneficial) differences. It works GREAT! I know a lot of people who use it and have never heard anyone complain about it. My father runs it in his heavy equipment and has put hundreds of thousands of miles on his dump truck running it. We put it in a very tired 3.8 v-6 in my old man's Buick and before adding it there was a lot of what sounded like lifters tapping and the engine almost immediately smoothed out. It really works wonders and I have never heard of it foaming up. They also have a synthetic additive. Just don't let it sit in the cold before trying to change your oil and add that. It will take you a week to get it out of the bottle.

Also, pull the timing covers. It may be the tensioner hitting on the bracket or an idler pulley. Ask Mightysubie on that one. It's worth a look...
Why do you have to bring up painful memories?!?!? If it's a timing belt issue, I will gladly lend a hand to anyone needing one. It is a lot easier with another person and as Joel says.. I have first hand knowledge. It doesn't sound like it though. It just seems like a typical engine needing a tune up and valve adjustment.

buy ej25t sti shortblock and call it good (1500 from joel)

If there ends up being a bearing issue (later on, because this doesn't sound like a problem, just needing the valves to be adjusted probably) or something where the engine needs to be split and rebuilt, I would definitely suggest going this route and doing a short block swap. Don't let everyone talk you out of a 2.5 claiming that the TD04 won't get you any power. What about the newer WRXs with the 2.5s? they are running TD04s with plenty of power. They also have 0 lag and a much smoother torque curve which is more pleasing to the 'butt dyno.'

i goof up and had one of the coil pack wires wrong... amazingly... the engine tried to run.. after the "correction" engine runs : O ) but : o / i think i blown the RH gasket..not heavily smoking but enough to be like what the deal.. .LH is dry as a bone...no leaks there.. just hoping.. that all i would have to do is re torque the head.

bug eye mafia
