finally..gangsta noise from bikers fought against

+eleventy billion

The harleys are crazy stupid obnoxious loud. I'd like to know what life they intend to save when they wear no gear at all except what looks "badass".

lol... harleys aren't that loud... Most guys that ride them are doctors and lawyers and have more money then any of us. Let them be kids for the few hours they get to leave home. I know and see way more ass hats on jap bikes that do wheelies and burnouts and bounce it off the rev then harley guys...

More people in "sports cars" try to cut me off and race me EVERY DAY then Harleys (never had that happen). Yesterday I had some dick in a gallant try to race me (i didnt realize till his lane ended and he tried to cut me off) I just let him go by and he turned the flashers on... so I followed him home and yelled at him (i wouldnt normally do this but he almost wreck my car and his and was a retard). He almost **** his pants!!!

The problem is *******s not bikers... the problem is people who make things an issue that aren't issues. This is America... Lets be free for once!

if anything, i think it would be better to have a decibel limit like we do with cars, not "oem only" because oem only wouldn't fix your harley problem, half of them COME with straight pipes or glass packs. so you know what oem only would do for your noise problem? nothing. nothing except piss off the rest of us who just want tuned pipes and the asshats will still have straight pipes

I will admit mine is a little bit obnoxious. Since it is a 2-stroke it is kinda loud. I just throttle down a bit when I pass cops

See 2 stroke doesn't bother me at all, it's the Harley's that sound like complete crap that bother me

loud pipes don't save ****. I almost creamed a harley ****** splitting lanes with cars on 95 South last summer. weaving in traffic at 90+ and I couldn't hear him till his dumb pipe end was at my rear wheel.

a guy at my office has a harley with straight pipes and rides respectfully, idles through neighborhoods, and generally avoids douchyness while on the thing and I have no problem with it.

I'm going to say Pedro has this one right on. LOUD PIPES DO NOT SAVE LIVES. all they do is annoy the piss out of everyone else and actually cause people to be startled as they fart on by and cause them to swerve due to that even if they were perfectly fine in their lane to start off with. Also Pat, this has nothing to do with who is driving the harleys or if they try to race you or not. The ones with the straight pipes that are so loud they rattle your windows are all asshats. Period. I ride bikes, I have a 1200 Bandit that can be loud, but it isn't. Plus there is a HUGE difference between having a throaty exhaust like a WRX where it's nice and deep but not annoyingly so, and a f'n hardly ableson with straight pipes.

there. I think that puts loud harleys into perspective. for anyone who hasn't seen that yet.

I am not sure why we need this legislation anyway. The noise restriction for vehicles is specced in the inspection manual. If that isn't going to be enforced, then what the hell do they expect out of this little bill?

motorcycles have a different standards and different manual

motorcycles have a different standards and different manual
not in Maine. "motorcycle" is considered a motor vehicle under the inspection manual. It actually says that on the first page.

really? then why do you have to have the special "motorcycle inspection station" sticker. unless it's just more certification for the tech...?

maybe. or it is just a delineation for the bike shops since they don't have the equipment to adequately inspect a car. (lift, space, time, ect)

they are considered a motor vehicle, but they to have a totally different set of inspection standards. I will post them up in a couple seconds. there is stuff about the placement of the plate, reflectors on rear and all sorts of random stuff. how you have to be able to turn the handlebars all the way to each side without it falling over while on the side stand (and centerstand too I think??) and without raising the RPMs also and I can go on and on, but like I said, it's totally different standards.
