So ever since I had Norm's change my cat (with another used one...
) and a gasket seal thingy that was leaking, I've been hearing a bad rattling either under the hood or under the car.
Its not a piston slap, and it doesn't get any worse or better after time running that I can tell.
The interesting thing is that it happens at certain engine speeds... It happens in multiple gears and out of gear, so I rule out the tranny and clutch (although I supposed it could still be something that's always attached to the engine).
Both in gear and out, I would go through the RPMs at various speeds to replicate the sound. It happens under no to low to medium throttle between about 3100 and 3500 RPM (although it spread a bit farther when I was just testing it in my driveway), and at about 2600rpm when the engine is slowing down or I'm coasting and it falls past that point. If I give it a lot of gas, I don't gear the sound (although I still hear it when the engine is slowing down past the above points).
WTF could this be? It's worrying me that it's something inside the engine.
First on my todo list is to go back outside and watch under the hood as somebody else revs. Could it be the "new" cat? Could it be the new seal? Could the surgeon have left his pocket watch inside my car somewhere?
Lobstah, when I pick up the wires, would you probably be able to tell what's wrong just by hearing it?
