Help: Horrible "rattling" noise from front of car

they theoreticaly keep the heat in the exhaust and out of the engine bay

engine bay temps go down, exhaust stays less dense and flows better

easy solution, rip heat shields off and use header wrap....like me, now with 500% less rattles

But you see, header wrap costs $$$ and my job is only one day a week.

I take it there is no way to prevent future rattles and leave the shield on?

they're (the shields) designed to keep heat in the cats longer for those peoples that dont drive much/far. But they do more harm than good. And all manufacturers are building crap cats. I've personally changed a few hundred cats in my day. Subaru, VW, GMs, Fords, Nissans, ect. They all suck. Even the "high performance" cats suck. They all poop out before their time.

You can use exhaust clamps to crimp the shields. That quiets them down temporarily. Some day the rattle will re-occur somewhere else on the contraption.

Alrighty then, sounds like its coming off

it was funny

It was. When you put a pry-bar on the heatshield and it stopped I think I said "what the EFF did you do?!?"

I was so relieved that my engine wasn't going to blow up
