Just leave the cat on and force pass it and delete the cat convertor codes with opensource on an 06.
If it's broken inside just knock the guts out. If it rusted out at the rear flange you just get a $10 split flange. There is just about no reason to buy a new cat.
My 02 OBS that I'm working on had the cat guts removed. They cut open the housing and now its quite obvious where they welded it shut. That is my reason to replace it xD
