Hey Man, Nice Rack!

Just to put it out there. I think you are going to HATE putting skis in that thing with it centered on you roof. I own the larger 6 ski set, and have it centered on my lowered car because it basically spans the whole roof. Its a pain in the ass getting skis to the far side of it. I think with the higher forester you are going to want to slide that over to the drivers side of the car.

@inski and WRXNate

i have been contemplating on moving it to the drivers side, the only thing is that the cross bars have a curve to them. so i was thinking of putting a washer or two to counteract the slant that the rack will get. or i could just live with the slant

I wouldnt try to straighten the curve. I think its more in your head then anything. I dont think its as bad as you think its looks. I would slide that thule rack over as far as you can. Tighten that mount onto the cross bar as close to the plastic crossbar end cap as you can.

alright ill have to give that a try and see if i like it. all i know is that today i put my pair on for the hell of it and it was even hard just putting on the side closest to me.

Bingo. Like i said, my car is lowered and when i put in 2 sets of skis (i seperate them and spread them out 4 wide, wax side down) I have a hard time reaching them over the car. I cant imagine it would be really hard to use your like it is. You would be reaching way over the card, and have to stand in the door sill.

My rack: Deffiantly a pain to get the skis to the other side. Also watch the tips, if you open up the rear door the skis tips can scratch the car. But that's only if you have long skis and twin tips.

Crap! I keep forgeting to take a picture. Its does look necked without a nice rack!

I haven't noticed any lean, but I dont drive it much or see it during daylite hours much anymore.

well its all the way to my drivers side, ill take a picture in the morning and show you what i mean by the lean.

other than that, its lookin' good

My favorite kinds of racks are the nice big ones...
roofracks4less_2074_104870
..and extended. A suby trick for you:

cut one rail in half and mount one piece on each side in front of existing outside rails...it is mathematical magic. set back far enough from windshield.

the sedans take one rail, the wagons, one and a half... unless they changed that in the newer subes (?).and if you want strong, find typical rack mounts that take a pipe diameter instead of the fancy stuff...and build what ever you want. (old yakima allowed this). save 400,000 dollars and build a real one.

Thanks guys. Summer camping is all done, so I imgine the next time it'll go back on is around Christmas time when I travel around with the family and the dogs (dog crate fits perfectly in the box). I was actually thinking about taking off the factory rails, but didn't.

and inski that's nice. i like it.

fozzy moved his over to the side also.
