I've had it !

fattie

fat kid
with these mother friggen subarus in my mother friggen driveway.

ive tried heat , the candle trick , pb blaster , breaker bar , impact gun and I still cannot remove any of the stupid friggen bolts holding the brakes on. I tried to cut threw one of the strut bolts with my dewalt sawzall with a heavy metal blade and it didnt do crap. what the hell am I doing wrong here ? ive got one strut bolt out of each side of the 95 but no other bolts will budge on either car. im pretty close to just throwing them up on craigslist and going and sulking in my corner. ive never had so much trouble working on any other cars ive owned out of about 20 or so. what the heck is going on ?

sorry guys , had to let out some steam , ive been throwing all my money at these things to try and get a decent working car , but its just not working.

Not giving up works. Long pipe on breaker bar is good for either getting bolts loose or broken. Torch the nut end off then beat with hammer, impact gun. Or similar and air hammer

A few questions:

Impact gun air supply? Small air compressor or larger

Candle trick?

How long have you let the bolts/nuts soak with the PB blaster?

I wouldn't use a Sawzall... Personally I like a 4 inch grinder

its a 250 ft lb impact gun with 26 gallon compressor , the candle trick is you heat up the bolt and touch a candle to it to let wax get in the threads. theyve been soaking in pb for a few days. I don't have a grinder or the money to go out and buy one.

Go get yourself a MAPP gas torch

it is way hotter than propane. Heat the piss out of everything and then hit it with some PB. It will smoke like hell and maybe flame up for a min, hose it again, and again. Then hit it with a breaker bar and handle extention.

I have also had luck with CRC freeze off:

crc-freeze-off-super-penetrant_1495222C_1.jpg

with this stuff, heat the piss out of it, then hit the bolt with the Freeze off. It will rapidly cool the bolt and it shrinks the metal a tiny bit, coupled with the nut being red hot, it usually lets go.

hell if that doesn't work, heat the nut till it is RED RED. Then go at it little by little, and make sure you keep it hot.

What pedro says. Heat like red hot.. And use freeze Stuff after if needed. . Hammer to help get things moving. Stupid salt on roads

^ the calcium is worse. And if you think its hard working on the subys you should try to work on the trucks that put out the salt and calcium. Not that I'd know...

Yep, you have to get some real heat on them. Propane won't do it. You want to get them pretty much red hot. Seems like some of them will come right out with a breaker bar, and others are stubborn like this. And this is why it's good to wash your car after it dries up after every storm in the winter!!! They will come out with persistence. Just make sure you put some never seize or something on them when you re-install, so that you never have to worry about this happening again.

thanks for the help guys. ill give it one more shot. and yea I wash my focus once a week in the winter. keeps the underside nice and clean.

I forgot earlier, try the impact gun and having someone hit the other end with a gbfh. It's how we get the bolts out on plow blades at work

Don't give up. I know you're having a hard time, but I have had just as many, if not more issues working on other cars!!

Red Wrench (almost) always works.

smokin hot aint hot enough, offending nut needs to be glowin cherry red. then it WILL come off.

try 6-pt socket, less likely to round off bolt n nut heads.

The candle trick is what I thought it was... we actually were recently using that here on the ship I'm on. One key to it is don't use regular wax, instead use beeswax(where you get it I don't know).

Anything can come apart even if it has been in maine winters for 15 years.

If it is a nut on one end you can split it with a hammer and chisel.

well I borrowed a real breaker bar from my boss today , thought I was gunna snap it in half so I stopped. sprayed some more pb on it. rezpunk said he may be able to stop by in the am and give me a hand , so well see how that goes if he shows up.if not , one of my friends has a grinder I can borrow , just gutta buy wheels for it. and chris and rezpunk sorry for arguing about the bolts threading into the hubs , I was tired , irritated and well , I was wrong. I double checked and yea you guys were right lol.

I've had it with these monkey fighting snakes, on this Monday to Friday plane!

Worst redub ever

ok , got a grinder and some wheels. got one hub assy off. but cant get the balljoint out or get to one of the caliper brackets bolts. grrrrrr

got everything undone but the balljoint. it just wont budge.

imn going to bangor tommorro . hopefully the subaru place there will have all the bolts I need , in stock. they better or im gunna go postal.

lots of pb blaster!!!! I typically take the dustboot off, and heat the ball joint housing until its red hot..they always come out after.
