Just breakin' her in!

yeah, that first pull of the engine isn't pretty. The aluminum corrodes together, and the dowel pins wont give up. BFH and BFPrybars ftw. If you had to pull the engine again next year it wouldn't be as bad. It would wiggle apart with a prybar but a bfh wouldn't be neeeded. Its just that first pull is always nasty.

I really hope I don't have to pull the engine again next year....

But if I do I know how to do it now

It is actually pretty easy once I have seen it done.

that is conservative. I didn't know ej's got stuck.

My 1987 is 124k with a transcontinental journey from alaska, upon taking interior out I found recipts from our next state over for 2002, the owner must have been driving all over even with rust. its key chain is from a muffler shop in north carolina, and the underside looks like it sat in arizona...or maine lightning (guess the most likely answer)

to this day it is 85 oil psi, 3 relief valves kicked open and ready to go anywhere...no major repairs, no years off.

my last two subes died via an accident and body failure, ironically, both at 165 k, no engine repairs in thier lifetime. and being the ea82 nut I am, they aren't any characteristic of stereotypes.

I still have no reason to step up to an EJ sube, the ea is the last sube for me. longevity and integrity is going someplace else for my next vehicle, I have learned too much for my years to pretend anything else. I am glad some are content with the newer subes and thier concept of longevity. To me it is a boxer tragedy...

The ea engines are great engines! And I wouldn't hesitate to drive one around. But my legacy was in the right place, with the right mileage, at the right time. The ej22 is also a great engine though. They will go well over 300k miles with nothing more than new timing belt and the occasional water pump, and the standard things like plugs and oil changes.
