loud spoolilng

did ya get an intake todayt? maybe your ears are better or ya turned the radio down... maybe the wastegate is craked and making sounds maybe the inlet tube is loose.

I wouldn't complain ;D sorry I'm no help

if it still makes boost like normal its not the wastegate, do you have an aftermarket catted pipe that could have had the cat come loose?

my wastegate was cracked on my stock vf 39 and still held and made boost perfectly it depends on how it is cracked if it chages the boost pattern. Mine was cracked away from the turbine. My spooling was loud and there was a metalic sound when coming on and off boost.

where exactly was it cracked? none of the wastegate should be near the turbine.

Finally drove the legacy again today. That thing spools crazy loud! 5lbs of vacuum and you can hear the turbo doing it's thing. It's great!!

But as far as turbo noise just getting louder without you changing anything... IDK... maybe it's got something to do with drag racing.

Any type of racing is hard on a vehicle. The more competing you do the more in tune with your car you will need to be. Get under that hood, slid under the body, something changed. Find it young Jedi!

it might be the colder air Iam sure its nothing... my bimmer sounds louder too. if it is a cracked turbo save for an fp green.

im thinking its an exhaust leak

when i got into my car this morning i could smell fumes big times

im gonna wait till tonight so i can tell where its comming from eaeyer

I'll second the idea of an exhaust leak.

On both of my old audis (1.8t), the exhaust broke at the flange. The flange bolted to the turbo, and the exhaust pipe just sort of pulled out of the flange. It wasn't immediately noticeable to look at. I was able to weld it back in place without any further issues.

It exhibited the symptoms you mention. Wasn't nearly as loud as you might think, as the exhaust gas was still getting muffled to a certain extent, but you could definitely hear the turbo a lot easier than before.

Aftermarket up-pipes leak all the time. You have a Perrin right? I know my Perrin down pipe fits like crap. That looks a little suspect to me.

So what did it turn out to be Pete?
I think it was a combination of bad ideas and mistakes. Before buying a new pump i put the hole pump assembly from the obs in... bad idea. The pressure and return lines are opposite on the plate so i think i put pressure to the wrong side of the regulator. ??? That i speculate that stopped any pump from working even with power. Thus the new pump didn't work and when i put the obs pump into the proper assembly it didn't work either. So saturday i removed the return lines from under the hood and a lot of pressure released and then i went right through the hole system to make sure everything was plugged in. Turned out the obs pump was not plugged into the assembly for power. That must have happened when pulled the assembly out for the second time with the obs pump to check for power.

I really didn't take my time with this issue. It seamed too easy, once i slowed down and though about it, it worked out. But now with the obs pump in there if get right on it in 2nd and the boost peaks quickly the car will bog pretty bad. Feels like half fuel cut. I think i'm going to try to put the the new pump in again today. Taking my time.

Also yesterday she started idling bad again. It's weird it seams to happen a couple of days after the ECU is reset. Hoping to at least check plugs today.

And kinda back on topic she does have an up-pipe to turbo exhaust leak that could be why the spool is so loud. The leak seams to be getting worse. As soon as i have a open bay in the garage she's going in. The replace the up-pip to turbo gasket is it easiest to pull the turbo out/off rather then drop the up-pipe/headers?

I certainly is, if you can tho DON'T pull the turbo off of the oil return line that it sits directly on top of, it's a ROYAL PITA to put back on. Just pull the turbo up enough to get the gasket in there. If you do have to pull it off the return line I have the $30 pair of extra-long ring nose pliers that it takes to hold the line on there to get the turbo back on. LMK when you are doing it and I will see if I can make it down there to assist

ya its a perrin

i looked at it, but its nothing obvious

maybe a gasket

i could really use someonelse to look at it too

My stock '06's spooling seems to have gotten much louder. I think my TD04 might be borked. It's not consuming a noticible amount of oil though so I'll just keep running it. It might just be from driving with the windows up more...

Oh welll.
