Mainely Subarus Spring Group Drive- May 20th!

Popham sounds fun but the roads are narrow and not conductive to having a long line of cars. I forsee multiple large instances of close calls. I did it on my bike last summer (note I lived in bath and made the trip many times in a car) and I still had issues with the road being too narrow. I'm guessing that people will want to take that back coastal road down bc its twistier. It's cool for one or two cars, not cool for 10-20. I vote no on group drive in that area.
More like 40-50. The acadia drive had a LOT of cars.

If we stayed on 209 there wouldnt be a problem. The whole coast is like that. I've driven around Phippsburg, Georgetown, Boothbay, West Port Island and Bristol. 40-50 car would call attention in those areas.

There are plenty off other group drives that go in those areas. as long as nobody acts like a complete idiot, it would be fine

All the more reason that I say 'no' for my vote.

Umm since when has everyone not been an idiot for the whole day? If this goes badly, then we won't be doing group drives with the 'mainely seal of approval' any longer and have to organize anything off forum. I love the area, I like cranking through the corners. I just don't see it being a great area for a group drive. But, I'm just one vote. If able to, I will be going either way. Just thinking we need a more responsible route than midcoast where its highly populated with narrow roads and 40 cars. Even going to owlshead is a better option. My friend painted a lot of the art in the museum.

I sort of agree. The midcoast area backroads are awesome. But part of that is they're narrow without a huge amount of traffic.

But you do run up on traffic. If you're just one car screwing around, you can pass people. But a whole group could get messy.

I know the Acadia drive wasn't like that. As a rule everyone went slow. It's fun to drive fast etc. but at the same time, why can't we enjoy the scenery??

^point.

A happy medium of slower scenery driving, and speed demon-ism. Sounds like an attainable goal for a route

Having daily driven those roads before, there's a hell of a lot of traffic.

Especially going down to Port Clyde, all traffic to and from must travel that road. That means trucks, cars, old people, etc.

Tenants harbor is down there, and a few other highly traveled spots.

Friendship isn't as bad to drive to, there's not as much down there, unlike previously mentioned.

I just got done working down to Port Clyde and Tenants Harbor. Good drive, and not much traffic. I'm sure in the summer it's heavier, but it still can't be that bad, it's not that small of a road.

That Acadia ride was a nice one last year and some of those backroads were fun esp the dirt ones, except all the fog and rain on top of the mountain

Popham is a great idea! I like the rolling hills of the coast. Not much traffic around the coast in April/May. Drive more inland for the summer.

im in. coastal doesn't sound bad but I know I travel a lot in the whitemountains, and I know there is a lot of fun roads up there. also depending when we do this they could still be a lil sandy which is always good for some sideways action on pavement. plus there are places where a stop for photoshoots could be made, and those who want to bang down some dirt roads can durin the shoot/or lunch.

im not entirely familiar with the mountains, but when I do go up there on occasion, I dont see that many people on the roads. and there isn't much there in terms of population either. plus, the mountains have some good twisty roads. and the scenery is amazing as well. if the vote is for mountains, then I change my last vote for coast to mountains. if there is some dirt, ill be more than game to go on those roads.

Idk how to votee

coast sounds good, but the possibility of some dirt is giving me.. As jeremy clarkson would say... A crisis

There will most likely be no dirt. If there is, it'll be optional. If you want a good dirt drive, come to the Rez brother's drive. Dirt means people will go sideways, we don't need 20 Subarus going sideways on a public road.
