MS Meet Schedule

I looked back at where the meets have been held. As Kati said it would be nice if there was a rotation of where the meets are so those that find it harder to make it to a meet in Portland/Lewiston have a few chances every year and can count on when they are. Weekend meets... I agree with Kati. Those are something extra on top of the regular meets. As Mark said, post positive comments on this thread. Yes, I have been guilty of saying, what about a northern meet. I am willing to help find a good spot for a northern meet or random weekend meet.

THIS THREAD IS NOT SAYING THE CURRENT SYSTEM IS BROKEN. It is a place for people to give ideas.

To make it easier on everyone to see what has been suggested here is what I have found others saying in this thread:

Cacciatore's in Waterville

park where we could have a big picnic/BBQ

BBQ at MikeMeyagi's

Brown bag meet

We usually go to Red Robin in Augusta, not sure if you saw me post that before it was deleted, and the turn out is pretty big!

I would love to go to Cacciatore's in Waterville. But good luck on getting this group much further than that.... that's why the Bangor guys created the "Northern" meet. I feel like we are in a war with the "North" and "South" when we should congregate in unity.

Which is something that can happen. It happened in my town with an ATV club. The co-trailmasters did what made sense. They started the trails in their area and were working on branching out. People in other parts weren't willing to start their own or even help make progress so it blew up. Do "Northerners" make it to meets? Yes. We should help the mods out by giving them ideas.

I am hoping this thread can help the mods with planning meets. Why put it on just a few of us when everyone can pitch in?

How many people can be expected at a meet?

I think it would be better to have meets on the weekend for the people (shorty) that cant get out of work on time or has other things to do on weekdays. The places wouldn't really matter then because we would have more time to get to them so we can go to further away places, most of the time we don't go is because we wouldn't have time to get there in time because of how far it is and how late he works.

Same goes for me. It would take atleast 3 hours for me to get to portland on a weekday. Leaving before 4 on wednesdays is nearly impossible. Maybe there could be a few schedualed weekend meets?

Northern meets, meaning Bangor, usually have a small turn out. There just aren't that many of us up here. We do rotate the meet locations, but sometimes the mods get confused and mess up. We talked to Carter about this in chat a few days ago. Wednesday nights make sense because restaurants can accommadate a large group then. It would be way too busy on a Friday night.

I would love a weekend meet. I think a nice park where we could have a big picnic/BBQ would be awesome. We also have a group drive hopefully at the end of May and WBM in June. For a state so large, mainely does a good job of covering 99% of the members, its pretty hard to improve on.

I was going by the amount of, "Hey when is a northern meet happening" I saw. I admit that I don't know the history of mainely cause i joined a year ago but haven't really been active till this year.

Drive/BBQ sounds like a great idea to me. Only thing to consider is group size compared to how popular the place is.

running car club meets in a state as big as Maine means driving, no way to get around it. sometimes it means a lot of driving. this subject has been hashed over many times already.

MS has a number of statewide get-togethers and lots of more localized informal stuff. It just takes time to pull together the pieces.

Def not trying to discourage these local type meets, they are imprtant and the ones interested will make them happen. Otherwise I agree with how meets are being handled in general.

Hopefully on the next group drive I can drive for a little

I'll be getting my license in June.

As a suggestion to doing a BBQ/Picnic. A few people know about it on here but in Castine there is a good size beach where we could put a bunch of cars. I dont know of a count but i could scout it out and get an idea. There is some great scenery around here from the little bit of backroad driving i have done. It would have to be a fall meet because the summer is sure to be packed full of tourists.

correction... its not much of a beach as in sand and what not. Its a MAINE beach which has rocks crushed by the ocean. An you can only drive so far. Cant really get to the water.

ive got a huge yard, so having a bbq here would be cool with me. plenty of room to park cars, and ive got a grill and stuff to cook on.

are you referring to beach in Castine at Wadsworth Cove? that would be a cool destination for a group drive. it has a lot more sand in summer....the winter seas scour off most of the sand and in comes back in spring.

Dan is planning on starting plans for a weekend Bangor meet later this month. Right now its the 26/27. Keep an eye out for his thread.

i would really like to see an even number of meets for portland, lewiston, brunswick and augusta. and like kati had mentioned, being able to deviate from the rotated location, like freeport for portland etc.

Perhaps for the augusta meets, have 1 be in waterville for the whole year. it would be nice to be able to see some of the rest of the club and have it be a club meet rather than a local meet.

like coupedupsubie said, it is very hard to be able to make it down to portland and even brunswick or lewiston, when it take a couple of hours just to get there. i understand having the meets on wednesday's just because it is a slower day for restaurants and it is easier to accommodate.

What if the meets were alternated? Meaning every other location(portland the first rotation, then portland the second rotation) do second wednesday, then second saturday? The meet doesn't have to be at night on saturday. if it is in the middle of the day, most restaurants are not that busy. Typically people have the weekend off, and having the meet around noon or in the afternoon wouldn't be much of a problem, but please correct me if i'm wrong. this would give people time to travel, and people wouldn't be pressed for time to get home so they can be ready for work the next morning.

is lewiston considered brunswick area vice versa?

would that mean 4 meets total in portland, brunswick/lewiston, and augusta?

if we could get these on an actual rotation, it would be easier to plan for and all members would be happy because it would be fair.

I personally dont consider lewiston the brunswick area since its about the same distances as to portland or augusta.

I used to organize northern meets. but i dont do it any more. the last one i tried nobody came to. and it was a Saturday.

I would gladly attend a midweek northern gathering if someone were to plan it.

and i still love the Augusta is our nothern location idea... it really shows the separation of the two Maines the politicians speak of. there are two parts to maine.. southern maine and working maine.
