My car is running crappy.

So last night I tried the stock bpv ran and it ran the same ive also rulled out the maf. That hole has also been plugged. Jim came over last night and he thinks its the tuning because I switched from a spt intake to a aps cai. Im going to check all the intercooler pipes next just to make sure.
Give me a call tonight if you want, I have a couple ideas.

One idea has to do with running the learning view. I dont know if you've downloaded that, its on the Romraider forum. I can help you run it and we can see what it comes back with for readings. I think it may be very helpful in figuring out whats going on.

APS makes 70mm "big" maf housings and 65mm "stock" maf housings, do they not?

Did you put on a 70mm maf housing but are tuned for stock size maf?

that's actually one of the things I was going to ask.

On the learning view if the car is add lots of fuel to its closed loop driving it means the MAF is larger.. with will cause the lean condition.

Additionally, in normal closed loop the car will only change the fueling +/- 15%.. if it needs more it will definitely throw a code.

APS makes A+++ equipment.

Their straight shot TGV delete is gorgeous and their fuel rails are much nicer than Perrins.

I won't hesitate to buy more from them in the future.

I was thinkin' you should post at http://www.iwsti.com it's a killer STi resource, better than nasioc, imo.

I dont think anyone said that it wasn't quality stuff :dontknow: Its some of the best stuff you can get .. but it can still mess with the MAF readings....

Learning view would give a good look at what is going on probably. Or at least rule some things out.

Its a 65mm intake. I didnt get a chance to give you a call last night I got to busy. Im going to try my spt intake out to see if it runs ok with that on and if it doesn't then I am gona take the bumper off and double check and refit all the IC couplers.

its pretty simple to figure this one out guys...

he started with a massive uppipe leak (which he was tuned with).

now his turbo is spooling faster and prob the fueling is way off since the spool is about 700rpms or so faster I would assume...

also he went from a tiny ssac fmic to a MASSIVE APS UNIT (which has less pressure drop (read more boost going thru) and FLOWS WAY MORE AIR GETTING TO THE ENGINE FASTER).

A TUNE WILL FIX THIS....

THIS IS WHY WE DONT MESS WITH PEOPLE TUNES (see someone added an mbc and turned the boost up from what it was) . Your Idle is off because both intakes place the maf in a dif spot and that will cause a variation in airflow (you should go back to the spt). Also more are is makeing it thru on idle so its going to run leaner, meaning it will prob be rough.

This will be fine once you get the tune fixed the car is fine nothings wrong with it, just too much air(also could have killed your o2 sensor running richer and more airflow out the turbo thru it).

It instantly started running chopy after I turned it on the first time with the new stuff and I tried the spt intake and it doesn't really make any difference.

its ok Nate, just dont work on your own car ever again...retune it with the new mods and it will run like steve's civic does.

Do you know what DSG is going to charge for a "retune"? They have told me in the past that it is less than the original $500.

im sure what the typical retune amount is but I know he said hes gona hook me up since we had to cut it short last time. Since the up pipe leaked.

The first part of this is not true:

With the open source tuning that runs off the stock mapping, it bases the fuel off the load. So, if the the car is seeing more load, more quickly, than it just finds the fueling and timing that is set for that, not the fueling that was set for that 'rpm'. EDIT: in thinking about this, its really hard to explain. I'll try to do graphic to explain tonight.

But, I do somewhat agree with what you are saying in the second half of your post this does seem very plausable.

On a side note, generally if you kill your o2 sensor the car will run richer than it did before, not leaner.

[[[letter from ye esteemed Barrister Mr. Prodrive, to One Mr VTEc Yo]]

My dearest chap Mr VTEC Yo:

Please make sure there are no mech issues (loose clamps, vac leaks, downpipe leaks, toated O2 sensrs, etc)

Please then get a decent tune for the gear you already have.

Please then spend more time driving, less time bolting more n more stuff onto that car.

You won't BELIEVE the diffrence. :bom:

Id love to come to that driving school to learn how to bomb down dirt roads but I cant swing the cash.

one-day Rally Experience school is $495, not exactly cheap but less than most ppl think. you drive the schools prepped golfs n jettas so you don't beat up your own car.

you learn how to turn car with the brakes instead of steering; trail braking; threshold braking; lines and apexes, etc etc; then finish the day riding with instructor in caged car at speed in the woods. the day will NOT be boring.

if you think you can't learn much of value while driving 'just' an old A2 golf, you got another think coming :angel12:
