i cut the cross bars then pulled the screws out of the roof rails

Scary. Maybe I'll just be better off removing the whole setup and getting those rubber sealer strips from an L that didn't have a rack.

not scary at all took less then 20minutes and i have now done it to 2 obs with no issues
