I don't believe theres an actual mini factory service center and closer than I think mass so if something were to go bad it would be a long tow truck ride. But plus one for the mini. Love those little FUUUUUUUUUUU

Now that I think about it, how bout an audi allroad? 2.7t goodness, awd, and room for junk in the back

Drove one, super heavy, and acceleration was meh. I heard they are wicked expensive to fix too. Air suspension was neat though.

and you won't want one that is over 50k miles.

I already have three project/toy cars. Have no need for a fourth. My DD will be newish, low miles, and won't be fiddled with.

Mini put 90% of the power to the fronts so just keep that in mind.

I think is would skip the awd option if I went mini... spend the $$$ on mega gnarly off-road wheels and tires.

you should get a4 avant!

it transfers just like all of the other AWD systems out these days. There are a couple videos of a countryman in the mud, it does just fine.

quote from CNET review Mini Clubman Allfour S

"While we were reviewing our Mini Countryman, it had the temerity to break down, its engine refusing to start. A little research in Consumer Reports shows that Mini's expected reliability is not high, something we experienced first-hand."

At least the Audi is reliable. *shrug*

From CNET again. Audi A4 Quattro:

Summary: "Overall, a great car. However, given the price and Audi's reputation, I would have expected a much better base stereo and much better nav/ipod itegration systems. The nav is extremely difficult to work. The interface is horrible. Audi should look at some of the Garmin Nuvi products. The cabin is excellent and very comforable. The car handles extremely well."

MINI All-four 0-60-mph time of 7.3 seconds,MPG 25C-31H total gas a year(15k) $2249 Price $30.9-34.7

Audi A4 2.0T 0-60 mph time of 6.8 sec (MT)MPG 20C-28H total gas a year(15k) $2741 Price Used 22k-26K with less then 50K

I have never heard of Mini's or Audi's being either cheap or reliable or easy to work on. I would assume you would spend all your money and then some on service. On top of that, I don't like the looks of either car either. The mini looks like a something out of a chevron comercial (you expect eyes & a mouth) and the audi just looks like a luxury grocery getter. My older brother's wife has an Audi A4 and he has a Subaru Legacy. He does everything on the subaru himself, he just did the timing belts. His wifes A4... forget about it. He says its impossible to work on and paying for service turns it in to the worlds biggest money pit because you have to bring it to specialty service centers to find people that can work on them. Keep in mind he lives in the Denver suburbs in an almost $400,000 house, and he still thinks that the Audi is really a car designed for "rich" people. His wife makes six figures though so he doesn't argue, if she wants to sink her money in it, she can.
